Do you know what you want to do/be in life?

I used to, but then a few things happened and now everything has changed. Uni is annoying me a lot, I enjoy it, just some things e.g. poor essay marks **** me off, especially compared to others work they have done which is pretty bad mine are actually pretty good but turns out they are not.

No idea what I want to do, or will do.

I was in limbo too until, a couple of years ago I suddenly discovered that I liked writing. It was totally out-of-the-blue as I've never even been a huge reader. Now I have written copy, articles, scripts and fiction and would quite like to make it into a career!

What sort of stuff do you write? Who do you publish with?

Thats what im interested in getting into once I actually manage to finish something I start :p

I'd love to be a marine biologist but
1. It'll take too long to retrain
2. I'm too thick to pass if I tried. :D

So all in all, I do what I do because I do it well and I like it.
Shame the management don't ever seem to look forward or simply try to improve.

What do you do now?

I'm 24 and doing okay from a career perspecting.
However I am single, with no desire to socialise, and I'm generally pretty boring.
So I'd like to meet a girl, without ever going outside. It's gonna work, obvo.

53 and it no longer matters.

I've worked since age 14. No education or qualifications other than a couple of GCEs, just went from job to job to where I am now.

I'm 23 and I feel like I've ummed and ahhhhd for 7year and p****** away loads of money to get me to the point of knowing what I want in life.

Hopefully I have my "what do i want to be" phase over with.

Nope, but I know what I don't want to be.

I guess that's some help.

Stuff it, life's for living and that's what I intend on doing. I'll find my way somehow.

19/20 years old and I was pretty much switched on career wise, just needed to narrow down my preferences, likes and skills during uni.

After finishing my masters degree I want to do a PhD in heat transfer engineering. Primarily phase change in energy systems. Such as enhanced condensation heat transfer, microchannel heat transfer, or nano particle heat transfer.
After my PhD I'd love to work for a large energy company doing further research for them. Weather this is through being directly employed by them or by getting funding to do a post doc is a question which will be answered closer to the time.

Answering the question, in a few years I want to be on my way to becoming a chartered engineer specialising in heat transfer and thermofluids.

Are you stuck in limbo with what you want to do/be in life ie not getting anywhere or are you lucky enough to be semi sorted out ?

Me personally im permanently stuck in limbo haven't gotta clue what i want to do/be or if i can just trying to make it to tomorrow depressive and pathetic and selfish ain't it for someone at aged 24 to be saying that ?

It wasn't my intention to turn this thread into a emo thread from day 1 but sometimes questions need answers even if sometimes there isn't any easy answers to life problems if you get what i mean.

My technique for deciding on a career is this. Ask yourself what you enjoy spending your time doing, and then work out how you can make a living doing it. If you post some of the things you enjoy doing here, I'll try to remember to come back and suggest ways to make money doing them ...

I'm a self-employed internet marketer. I like tech, writing, providing consumer information and building websites, so it's perfect for me, I love it.

Rgds

im 21 had no idea til last xmas when dropped out of uni and applied for marines, this week doing commando tests :P finish wed, doubt ill make a career of it though, i just descided to be selfish and do what i wanted to do for a few years rather then university / good job route which most of family expected me to take.

Have you considered changing to another course/taking a year out? My brother started a chemistry degree, and was doing well... but has now dropped out, after his second year, because he really wants to be doing ancient history.

Ideally I'd like to do History but I didn't do it at A level, and I didn't get the grades I would need to do it at Leeds (AAA), so yeah just gonna stick with Linguistics I think. It's ridiculously easy so I should get, at worst, a 2:1.

I want to finish my MEng Degree with at least a 2:1, get another masters at Manchester in Embedded systems, get my B licence in Skydiving then go off to work in a bar in the Mediterranean for minimum wage. :)

haha like it, prove you're intelligent then live a nice simple life anyway ;)

What do you do now?

Basically a glorified mechanic
Along with ECU mapping / engine tuning, dynomometer operation, welding and fabrication.

Hands on stuff really, anything mechanical I'm good at. Got an HND in Agricutural engineering, but never used it.

24, knew what I wanted to do since I was 19, reached it at 20, got injured, so had to wait 3 years to get back to it. Now I'm back exactly where I want to be, dong exactly what I want to do. Couldn't be happier :D.
