As has previously been said, the 5850 is the faster unit out of the box. Even with an OC on the 460 the 460 only just takes the crown however thats with no OC on the 5850. With pricing of around £25 seperating the 2 units I would opt for the 5850 if performance is the key but would happily take a 460 is instability in drivers is a worry. Nvidia drivers although not the nest at present are still less of a hassle and in my opinion better than the ati ones.

Oh... 5770 is around 40W less full load. But same temp as 5850 usually.

thanks for the feedback. 50w less than 460 then and slighly cooler, does it make sense now, easyrider?:)

I ran furmark dozens of times when checking psu stability, cards overclocks or temperatures :) not really usefull in RL though.

I think the point is if you're only doing light gaming then power consumption is negligible if the idle is the same... HTPCs are generally used for watching movies on right?

lol, no idea why people keep comparing these 2 cards. 5850 is easily the better card. Well worth the extra £20. You actually need to overclock the 460 to reach 5850' stock performance. lol. If you overclock the 5850 then the 5850 will be much faster. Simples :)

yes

Mr Kruggar is playing games with the wrong guy.;)

If you compare voltage tweakable card vs voltage tweakable card, the price difference is not as little as £20, but £35-£40.
