Not for an htpc with low power consumption, it doesn'tit should be a little cheaper though, say £110 or so.

So what's the difference in power consumption between the two cards
Idle is the same between the two and the 5850 is about 10W less at full load.
Temps 5850 is 3 degrees cooler at full load than 460.
So basically not much.

As has previously been said, the 5850 is the faster unit out of the box. Even with an OC on the 460 the 460 only just takes the crown however thats with no OC on the 5850. With pricing of around £25 seperating the 2 units I would opt for the 5850 if performance is the key but would happily take a 460 is instability in drivers is a worry. Nvidia drivers although not the nest at present are still less of a hassle and in my opinion better than the ati ones.

If you run furmark the consumptions are higher but to be honest I can't see you two doing that.

I ran furmark dozens of times when checking psu stability, cards overclocks or temperatures

If you compare voltage tweakable card vs voltage tweakable card, the price difference is not as little as £20, but £35-£40.lol, no idea why people keep comparing these 2 cards. 5850 is easily the better card.
