What have I done?!

A friend of mine picked up a 318is coupe in white about two years ago for £500 with similar moon and back mileage. Mechanically perfect, he just tidied it up externally, and with a new set of wheels it was a very nice car. I wouldn't pay over £1k for a good one.

Since when is 160k moon mileage?

You may not MikeHiow but the iS is not a 'normal' 318 and is more specialist so goes for more than you'd willingly pay for one. I didn't pay anywhere near that mind.

This car was £1400 in Dec 2009 by the way people.

Seeing as you are in a very literal mood today, the moon is 238,857 around miles away, so in fact 477,714 miles is moon and back mileage.

The car has averaged 13,000 miles a year over it's lifetime.

Wow, thats some depreciation in just 8 months :D

By the way, I didn't buy this to sell on. I bought it as it's a car I like...despite the lack of two cylinders. It'll be brought back up to scratch and kept as good as possible until I either get bored or have to change. If I get bored it'll become a 325i though I expect as that's an easy upgrade and cheap at ~£500 for the engine.

I love the way people quantify high mileage with "Its average mileage" or "Its good for the year" when all it does is proves its old and high mileage. I'm not knocking it, but you're not surprising me, or making me change my mind by telling me its done average(ish) miles when looked at yearly.

I'm well aware of what the 'iS' is, and I still wouldn't pay over £1k for one, and I think anyone that does needs their head looking at, when something like a 325 is better in every possible way, and could easily be had under £1k.

With regards to the engine conversion, I'm led to believe that it isn't easy to put a 6 pot in a 4 pot motor, You'd essentially need everything from the 6 pot motor that you might as well just drive the 6 pot motor. Things like subframe, prop, gearbox, diff, rear beam, suspension etc. etc.

I could be persuaded to sell an entire donor car if you're serious though ;)

Have you seen how much they go for with MOT and tax?

£1500 is about right for one with 6 months MOT and tax...and most of those are chavved up and not standard at all.
Granted, 160k mile ones go for ~£1300 but again, they are barried.

He only paid 1200 quid For yours when it had MOT and tax!

You bought a car from Muffin?:o Have you ever seen how Muffin drives?:p
