Quite possibly but as the issues don't seem as severe as initially described it doesn't seem too bad. The only major issue I have is that now I've worked out that the fan is fine I don't know what is making the rattling noise. It'll require further investigation.

I said 'as standard' :confused:

You had to specifically order it and pay more, which few people ever did.

Whereas if you bought a 98 318iS it had the bodykit whether you wanted it or not. It was standard fit.

As was the ACS kit according to the supplying dealer.

Indeed, but not as standard. Had you walked in and simply ordered a 325i it wouldnt have arrived with an ACS kit.

Whereas a 1998 318iS would have arrived with pretty much an M3 kit.

How do you find the engine? I keep looking at these as a 'sane' runabout but have yet to drive one

I've only driven a few E36s but none of them were the iS variant. I did drive a really well specced 316i touring though and tell you what, wasn't a half-bad car. Not entirely convinced by the interior but hey ho, can't win everything.....

Well I've not run the car properly so can't really comment on the engine, seems to be ok though, not as powerful and torquey as the 2.8 i6 in the 328i but it certainly can make the car move well enough. Once it's on the road properly I'll be able to give you more of an idea.

The point was, this car comes with the sport kit AS STANDARD so comparing it to a 325i with OPTIONAL kit is not right.

Because 325i's with bodykits were like hens teeth in 1995, let alone 15 years later. Therefore suggesting one as an alternative to a 318is is daft.
