Lean Bulking Calories - 15 x lb bodyweight?!

It sounds a little low. The RDI is 2500. So what that is saying is that in order to gain weight, someone of your mass should be eating less than the recommended daily intake required to sustain weight. WTF

that would mean I'd need about 1500 cals a day for lean bulking?!?! Forget that, at the moment I eat about 1800-2000 and I'm not even gaining that much.

It deffo sounds wrong

It takes years of effort to lean bulk. Not months or weeks. In 12 weeks on a lean bulk you can easily add at least a few lbs of lean tissue. But that's it. Absolute max. Don't be fooled into thinking lean bulking is short term. It very much isn't. You will not get huge noticeable gains. If you're strict with your diet, and training, and keep it up for a year, then I reckon a good 6lbs of lean mass is achievable - maybe more. If you don't care about staying to lean, than you can easily put on over 2 stone of mass. However, 2/3rds of that will be fat or water. Then the effort to cut down, and lose a lot of body weight can cripple some people psychologically.

It's your call. IF you're in it long term, take it slow and make it part of your life. If you just want big gains and not worry too much about bodyfat, don't worry too much, if you really don't care and just want to do the old fashion 80s bulk, then absolutely go for it. Just be aware that each have their pros and cons. It's your choice.

FF, your knowledge is invaluable. For everything else, there's mastercard
Personally, I don't plan to lean bulk. I'm naturally skinny so if anything gaining some fat would make me look more normal :p I'm going to really start bulking when I start uni. Reading here is good because I can acquire lots of knowledge over the next two years before I start, and make the most of newbie gains :D

So what do you do if you're skinny fat? :(

Yeah but if I cut - chances are i'll look terrible with no muscle mass, however if I bulk.. I'll look really fat due to the increase in fat from a bulk. If I lean bulk, gains will be so slow and as Freefaller has said, maybe.. 6lb a year? What is the best route?

It's pretty funny, I did the same calculations for a lean bulk, I got my calories spot on to what it said online I needed, but even so my weight shot up by over 2lbs per week since I started when I only wanted around 1lb per week, I'm still not really sure how the hell my body has done it, but I can't be bothered to go back now, I'll just buy bigger clothes until I cut.

Im in a similar position to you here.
I've always been a chubber, a couple of years ago I was 17.5 stone, this year I clocked in at 14 stone with hardly any muscle.

As you said you can cut and look like you have not got much. However, if you were to bulk and do it sensibly and not eat copious amounts of food but more than a lean bulk requires then you could gain a fair amount of muscle (which has happened in my case). Yes you'll get a few extra lbs of fat in there, I've gathered some, but in the long run you ARE going to cut up so why not bulk now but be sensible and cut after a 4 - 6 month bulk?
