**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

There is no high ground damage bonus. They have simplified the high ground advantage - all it is now is if you're on a cliff, the units on the lower ground can't hit you unless they have vision. i.e a unit on the high ground near. In SC1 there was a 70% chance of hitting a unit on the high ground from the low ground, but that doesn't happen in SC2.

I'm extremely happy with Blizzard's choice to keep Starcraft 2 like Starcraft 1 in terms of mechanics. I like the challenge of remembering to macro. btw, if you hotkey your barracks you only have to press # -> a to make a marine. Although you will have to jump to your base a lot. But that's part of the learning curve. The people with the better multitasking are better at the game.

I was a really decent player in Dawn of War, (max out at around ts36, nothing pro just decent) but have great difficulty in these types of games. I really want to get good at this but it's confusing on when is the right time to expand or what research needs to be done.

As Terran is blocking off you base with depots good idea against zerg, protoss?.

Walling off is definitely recommended against zerg. Speedling runbys are so dangerous and it's better to just wall off than build bunkers in your mineral line. You could probably get away with no walling off against protoss since stalkers are annoying buggers who can hit your buildings without being hit on some maps like kulas ravine. I know because I do this a lot to terrans. :p

Also if you scout a banelings nest, lift off bigger buildings and put them at your ramp asap. It doesn't matter if you can't get out of your base for a while. Blocking your ramp with any supply depots against banelings is almost instant lose for you, you need larger buildings to hold off baneling busts.

you've not seen how i play Terran ^^ haha :)

Had a really nice game vs against a zerg player on my last placement.

think im like 7-2 or 8-2 now. yey! will play a few more when i get home, got a gig to play tonight though so wont be online tonight.

If you're not 1:1 then the ranking system is not working and you're not learning.

haha very true ^^ but in actual fact.. the matchmaking system is working, providing you take away the 5 games i had for palcements.. im actually 2-2 ^^

If i scout blings i normally just plong a couple marauders on the ramp with the rines behind them, out of splash distance... they will waste their blings on the marauders, marines mop up :)

I bought sc2 a couple of days ago, and wow I'm hooked! :) Fantastic game, it has everything that got me into the original game. I'm still learning all the new units though so even medium AI are proving challenging atm :(.

I've got a quick question though that's confusing me and I can't find an answer to. A couple of friends of mine are wanting to try sc2 but aren't sure whether to buy it or not, and since they haven't played the original I thought the guest pass 7 hour limit might be a bit too short for them to get into the game. What's stopping me installing the game client on their PCs, and then using guest access so they can play sp? Surely this means that anyone with the client can play all the sp for free?

Yes i was thinking this, although i think you would be hard pushed to complete the entire SP in 7 days no?

But that's the thing, from what I can see the guest access (not the guest pass) has no time limit. So you could use guest access to practise against the AI for as long as you want. Hell I could give the installer to everyone I know and they could play the single player for as long as they pleased.

Obviously doing this you miss out on a lot of the game, but I'm surprised Blizzard would be essentially willing to give away a fair bit of the experience for free. I've got a feeling that I've got the wrong end of the stick somewhere though.

well I am annoyed played a match with somebody online and the f*cker kept making alternative bases, he had 6 I killed 5 then ran out of armies.

What the hell is this, one can just keep building main bases? When I was winning which was until the end when I got annoyed and bored I just thought if quitting >_<

What an annoying tactic to build 9999 bloody bases
