Who is still 100% behind the iPad?

Would people PLEASE stop saying it should have this and that?

E-ink? what? make it B&W? surf safari in B&W? watch videos too? Photos too?

You are right though about you cannot see value in the product. I can however.

If people want OSX, keyboard, usb, etc etc etc. Get a Macbook Air, it is light and does everything you need BUT the touch screen. If you want the touchscreen but want instant on, internet everywhere, 10 hours battery life, £1,000 cheaper, then get a iPad.

If you want E-ink, get a Kindle.

You don't get a landrover and want to race around Silverstone so when you can't do it, don't complain about it. Each product does what it does best.

You may not like it nay you obviously don't like dissent. I can understand that having spent serious money on a product no one likes to think it may not be all it should be but when you are older you will learn to accept criticism and take it on the chin.

One of the selling points of the iPad, in fact one of it's main selling points is as an e-reader and I'm sorry to have to tell you this but as an e-reader it is seriously compromised (there now deep breath, that wasn't so bad was it?). One of the reasons that e-readers have always struggled until now is that a back lit screen is very bad for reading text due to eye strain - that is a fact of life I'm afraid. With the advent of e-ink that problem was solved hence e-readers (real ones that is) are selling like hot cakes.

I don't know about you but I like many other people I know always print off large documents at work as they are easier to read in print form than they are on a computer monitor.

Is there an option for plugging in keyboards / mice still rather than just having the touch screen function?

People have started intergrating them into the car dash boards. You tube 'ipad car dashboard'.

Well given Stoke's away record I suppose you need some solace? Hope you're not advocating using it whilst driving though?

If you want to do that why would you even think about anything but a proper keyboard?

The vast amount of people who say lazing around on facebook dont need to type 100 words a minute. You do understand that right?

Love my ipad, seriously brilliant for car journeys (football away matches)

I'm afraid social networking sites have passed me by I'm afraid, the whole concept is a mystery. I have real friends, i.e. those I meet for socialising etc. not imaginary ones on the net. I also never surf whilst in bed, what's that all about? I either sleep when I go to bed or being married there are other activities but surfing the web, never. We don't even allow a TV in the bedroom. I have a proper home office for all my computer needs and a lounge for watching TV etc. A place for everything and everything in its place is our motto.

I'm going to shock you here, so take a deep breathe my friend. The iPad is *MORE* than an eReader. Do you honestly think that eInk is the best technology to display full colour photographs, HD Movies, games compared to the beautiful IPS screen that is has?

When you grow up, you'll understand what the word "design" means. :)

No I don't I can use my iMac, W7 machine or shock horror my Blu-Ray player and Plasma display for HD movies pictures and the like. However, I suggest you go away and read some of the marketing blurb or listen to Steve extolling the virtues of the iPad as an e-reader. You can dress it up anyway you want but as an e-reader it is seriously compromised, end of.

I have seen lots of "design" during my lifetime that sadly hasn't led to good function, "form over function" it's called. So are you saying that the iPad is more "form" than "function"? I'm with you there, well done that man. :D

Social networking sites are a good way to get in contact with old friends, they are also used to arrange 'real life' events... infact I've seen it being used for that loads lately and to great effect.

I've seen this attitude a few times, "we don't have a TV in the bedroom" as if it's impressive or sophisticated... I have a TV in my bedroom and I love watching it as I snooze off, I really don't see the problem.

I also like taking my laptop/iPad to bed, browsing and reading in bed is pretty enjoyable. I've speant quite a lot of timing reading technical PDFs in bed since I've had the iPad, I haven't had an issue with eye strain- infact it hasn't even crossed my mind.

You take your blu-ray player and plasma TV on the train/car/plane etc... hats off to you sir

Faustus trolling since March 2007  if the iPad does not suit your needs then so be it Faustus but please stop coming in to threads to slate and moan about a product you have no interest in, by all means please post again after my post but you will just be confirming what i said at the start of this post :) have a nice day

No but would I want to? I can read the Telegraph (ink black and white you know?) when I'm on the train etc. and why would I be taking anything like that if I was going on holidays etc. I don't even take a mobile phone on holiday never mind something like an iPad. It's called getting away from it all, two weeks in France, no TV, no outside communication, just good weather good food, good wine and some good old fashioned books or maybe now a "proper" e-reader. What are you people like?

E-reader?

for ME, its a web browser, email, PHOTO Portfolio first, everything else second.

BTW, i can read magazines on the iPad, try reading Maxim or FHM on E-ink!

As for Eye-strain, i spend hours and hours on the forum, its FINE. Who says you look at it constantly, when i use the ipad on the go, i don't sit down for 6 hours on the trot. I read it for 30 mins on the train, have a nap, then get up and get off the train. Get it out in starbucks for 15 mins while i drink my coffee. If you get eye strain in 30 mins then you should see an optician.

Besides, its LCD, not CRT, eye strain is not like the old days anymore in the days of Cathode tubes.

As for £5/6/700 for one, its all relative.

Design is about function, so you clearly don't understand what the word design means.

This is beside the point though, I don't really think you believe what you're saying, you're just trolling looking to start an argument. :)

People like to be "connected".

Just agree to disagree that the iPad not for you, don't assume your opinion is fact to everyone else.

Yes steveo, I have noticed this before with you - if someone shows dissent from your views then they are immediately accused of trolling. Surely debate is good or maybe you don't think so? What a dull life it would be if we all bought the same things and had the same views. You may not realise it but society functions because of our differences of opinion not in spite of them. Apple owners seem more prone to hating dissent than most though I shouldn't generalise as I own Apple products but hope I'm more enlightened.

I don't assume at all, my argument started off by stating that the iPad is compromised as an eReader but as usual people cannot bear to think their product may have a flaw so the answer as always is to attack the messenger.

Yet when you're told its more than an eReader you start saying you don't want any of the other features, as if Apple made the device specifically for you. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you want a device that is just an eReader and nothing more, then buy a Kindle or a Sony eReader.

I'm sure you don't think PC monitors should be eInk so they don't cause as much eye strain? Ignoring all the other uses a monitor provides.

I highly doubt anyone would buy an iPad to read stuff on it as their main 'thing'

i was using iBooks a few days ago and it was fine, i lowered the brightness a bit as it was night/lights were off etc. So i didn't want a massive bright light in my face.

it's MORE THAN A E-READER !!!!!

i say again, you clearly want a E-Reader, WTF are you doing in an iPAD thread?

Faustus is the first person I've seen make any emphasis on the e-reader functionality of the thing. No one I know with an iPad had much intention to use it as an e-reader nor do I see much advertising on the e-reader functionality of it, other than "Oh, by the way - you can read your books on it too".

Going off your previous comments, I could see you jumping on me saying that I don't want to hear bad about something I own, well - i'll cut you off. I don't own an iPad and don't want to buy one either.
