Who is still 100% behind the iPad?

Getting genuinely funny now, "Maybe if I hold it like this, that will be comf.. no.. maybe like this.. oh I need to type something, new position.. oh dammit!" :D

Oddly everyone I've seen using one thus far looks like a middle aged IT professional desperately trying to be hip. This a co-incidence or the actual user base?

"hip"???!!! :p:D

Why does it have an archaic screen format? Watching videos on 4:3 would look silly, so much so apple doctored their press release photos to hide this fact.

Other than that I think its half decent apart from the usual apple shortcomings that "protect the end user experience".

Because widescreen is less useful for anything else, it's not as good for reading or displaying photos (unless your camera is a 16x9 ratio, which no professional ones are currently). Now I only watch the occasional video blog type thing on youtube on it (with which I have no issues at all) but I'm very glad they didn't choose a widescreen ratio for the sake of video alone, 4x3 works really nicely for everything else...

My iPad is one of the few purchases I've ever made where I've had no regrets at all.

As for watching video on the non widescreen, I watch a lot of stuff on it, via Air Video, and the 4:3 screen doesn't bother me at all.

Yep it's far from perfect, lack of Flash and no multitasking at all being 2 things that I wish it had, but the pluses outweigh the minuses by a long way for me.

Fair enough, there is something out there then. But its not even close to the iPad from the quick reviews I just read.

Sample highlight:

the only android stuff out there atm is pretty crappy not gona lie lol.

theres 2 devices rumoured for Q1 2011 from asus which might be worth a shout against the ipad.

however if some1 like HTC decide to make a tablet running android id be all over it. (however they have said they wount do one until they can make something different than the rest of the crowd i.e. not ****)

big but tho, a tablet running chrome might be a better bet than android, however that all depends on whether google will make a touch version of chrome or whether it stays desktop only and they focus on android as the ''touch'' OS.

Either way you are right theres nothing that can compete with the ipad atm, however that doesnt mean its (lets face it pretty severe) shortcomings as a tablet pc dont exist.

me and the gf had a picnic the other day and i had my ipad with me reading stuff to each with and it was a sunny day with no probs from the glare
Umm, i've taken it out only a few times but especially if the screen has got finger prints on its just impossible to do stuff. Even if im sitting by the window it can be bad.

Keeping a cloth underneath the iPad in its case = win :)

I like my iMac and like my PC but iPad to me is an just an expensive toy and somewhat of a one trick Pony. As an eReader it is seriously compromised given the back lit screen (terrible for eye strain). They really should have gone for e-ink there. Apart from a bit of surfing or checking email I cannot see value in the product.

You can't do any serious typing on an iPad or any such device with a sudo keyboard.

I was seriously worried about typing before i got it. Its surprisingly good though due to the space in between the letters on the keyboard.

I wouldnt want to write an essay with it but for emails it works great

Yes but I'm talking about professional typing e.g. 110 words a minute etc. which is what I'm used to on a proper keyboard.

If you want to do that why would you even think about anything but a proper keyboard?

The vast amount of people who say lazing around on facebook dont need to type 100 words a minute. You do understand that right?

Love my ipad, seriously brilliant for car journeys (football away matches)

Is there an option for plugging in keyboards / mice still rather than just having the touch screen function?

People have started intergrating them into the car dash boards. You tube 'ipad car dashboard'.

Well Bluetooth keyboards, apple have the keyboard dock

Would people PLEASE stop saying it should have this and that?

E-ink? what? make it B&W? surf safari in B&W? watch videos too? Photos too?

You are right though about you cannot see value in the product. I can however.

If people want OSX, keyboard, usb, etc etc etc. Get a Macbook Air, it is light and does everything you need BUT the touch screen. If you want the touchscreen but want instant on, internet everywhere, 10 hours battery life, £1,000 cheaper, then get a iPad.

If you want E-ink, get a Kindle.

You don't get a landrover and want to race around Silverstone so when you can't do it, don't complain about it. Each product does what it does best.
