Why is it the British way to **** things off that we simply do not understand?

I have no problem with someone earning that amount of money. Almost anyway.

I do have a problem with Ms Smith earning that when it is public money. She failed miserably as a Home Secretary, royally took the water with her expenses and as such I would find it in bad taste that she earns that salary for 2 days work a week when it is funded by public money.

If she wants work to which she is suited the perhaps being a witch in any more Harry Potter movies or perhaps interior minister for North Korea would suit her best ?

Joking aside, she is an absolute disgrace and not worthy of being payed by public monies.

Although i wouldn't go as far to say the BBC is a 'propoganda machine' they are left-wing biased. Marcus Brigstock and Russell Howard and the amount of TV time they get are proof of that...

Most comedians on television, even in the US, are left wing. Get over it.

LOL and don't forget,

Jim 'oh the hilarity' Davison.

Anyway to the OP, she has only applied forthe job. She hasn't got it. I am unaware if she has been shortlisted for interview either. I wonder who made the press aware of the application? I thought such applications until they reached shorting and interveiew stage should be confidential.

Personally I hope she doesn't get the job, but frankly anyone is entitely to apply for that job, you might be eliminated on selection criteria, or refused interview for being a keyboard champion, but the fact Jackie Smith has applied for a job, big bloody deal. I don't care, BBC should be able to pick a better qualified person for the role, and if they can't then God help us, clearly no one wants it.

I couldnt care less about the porno flicks. In fact I would pay her husband £20 a month just so he wouldnt have to go near that woman. People hate her because she is a massive retard who has had anything but a glittering career yet has managed to maintain and progress her status within the government for years. She deserves to be taken to the barn and shown a sort of kindness. Horrible horrible woman.

haha classic. I honestly have never hated a women with as much passion as I hate her. She is an utter abomination.

she should be doing 7 days a week at an institute called HMP. Thieving cow.

What iv'e had said..

The whole thing with the 2nd homes, you ignore the inferences of what the rules are for purpose, you end up with the above.

It was sad that anyone even attempted to justify what happend with that, so black and white, it realy was a kick in the teeth.

well said ! !

Vice-chairman of the BBC Trust is a fair £150k pa salary so half-time at £77k sounds reasonable enough.

The position was advertised openly here:

http://appointments.thesundaytimes.co.uk/job/396319/vice-chairman-and-trust-member

So really what is the big fuss about? I can understand the dislike for her but it seems pretty lame to get all outraged about her applying for a job - if she got it then sure by all means spaz out but this seems a tad premature, no?

The fact that the BBC are even considering the application of a traitor and fraudster?

You over-simplify sir.

It would be grossly illegal for them not to consider her - she has not been convicted of anything, "Scotland Yard said that they had not found evidence of criminal activity" and she was made to apologise for the porno.

Even if she had been convicted (and sentence served), it would still be illegal for them not to consider her (The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974).

Not that I like the woman, nor should she receive any (further) money form the public purse (which this job effectively is)....

For example, do you think Jaden Smith landed the role of the Karate Kid because he was the best young black actor in America, or because he is the son of the producer (Will Smith)? And it happens in all industries, just look at the Haymarket Media Group which was previously run by Lord Hesseltine before he retired and made his son the CEO.

It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Traitor? I may have missed one of Mrs Smith's more heinous crimes but I don't recall her being a traitor in the conventional sense.

Also if the BBC are committed to openness and impartiality then they'd have to consider the application even if it is just to dismiss it as being from someone unsuitable for the position e.g. someone with a criminal record (which Mrs Smith does not have I should point out).
