Alfa Romeo Mito - any opinions?

It was the slowest hot hatch in the top gear group test last month, they didnt like anything about it if thats any help.

It was up against mostly more expensive/higher performance cars though..

Gets a good review on the top gear site too, and by Clarkson in the Times..

Unfair test then really since it's not a hot hatch and costs literally half the price of something like a Focus RS.

I really like them. They look cool, and they're well equipped and fun to drive. Power steering is a little light ,but other than that i really liked it. Though the Abarth 500 is a contender IMO.

What's the turbo based on, Alfa aren't known for their turbos, is it a FIAT engine?

Had my 147 from new to 100k, yes expensive to maintain but reliable and great to drive.

It is exactly the same engine that I have in my car, which is a very good thing as I think it does a great job for what it was built for.

I like the MiTo, I thought the interior looked very nice, the suspension is suppose to be a bit iffy and means you get a bit of a crashy ride.

I do think they are slightly over priced and would rather have a Grande Punto Sporting 1.4TJet or pay a bit more and get a Bravo/Focus ST or so on.

Infact I paid £4k-£6k less than the examples your looking at and got my fully loaded Bravo.

Drove the 1.4TB when the GTA was getting its undertray screwed back in. Again.

Very impressed, glad the wife wasn't with me as i'd wager she'd love one for town driving. Seemed quite well screwed together, but those front lights...can't get used to them.

What does fully loaded mean on a bravo? Leather? auto everying?

You don't want a Fiat auto, ever - so no. Leather is stupidly rare on the Bravo as well, but mine has duel zone climate control, optional 17" alloys, cruise control, Blue&Me bluetooth and voice control, MP3 CD, OEM USB interface, tinted windows, media steering wheel, rear electric windows etc....

I had one as a rental for a week in Italy. I actually really enjoyed driving it. I has plenty of pep right up to about 4k then it sags a bit but has oodles of oomph in the lower range. Quite comfortable with plenty of room and I personally quite like the look of them. It was also more than happy to cruise at around about 120 - 130kph on the motorway.

My previous cars have been a Ford Focus 2.0ltr Zetec, WRX Impreza and a Peugeot 206 GTi 180 so I'm used to fairly good driving cars. As far as a car for cruising around in and feeling safe on the road but still fun and responsive, I'd give it about a 7-7.5/10.

hardly fully loaded then

Compared with other cars in it's class it is. I don't see how not having an automatic gearbox means it's not fully loaded :o

Not many people spec leather in this class range unless it's a 1 series or some sort of special edition/promotion.

USB, duel zone climate control, cruise and bluetooth are all things that make a car in the small hatchback class spec'ed well if you ask me.

Heck when looking for a car for my mum in this class hardly any had rear electric windows as standard.

I meant auto lights / wipers / dipping mirror etc when i said "auto everything". To me its a reasonable spec just not "fully loaded", to me leather, sat nav etc are the differentiator between well specced and fully loaded.

On a car made in 2007 that's main rivals are things like the Focus?

A friend has a 2007 Focus 'Sport' 1.8 which has sod all in.

Compared with everything else made in 2007 in the same class it's pretty well spec'd.

They seem to look OK to me, very Alfa indeed (maybe not Alpha..) obviously it's a personal thing, but in the right colour/3 door, I can see why people would like them.

As for what to check out, well I think you are in relative luck, being a highly joint developed platform/engines, I think they aren't too bad reliability wise etc, and I guess just normal car things.. but I assume it's got up to 2 years warranty left, which should give more peace of mind?

I would prefer the Fiat 500 Abarth of course, there is something about the Abarth that largely negates the girlyness of them (for me)..
