I notice that OCUK have yet again blasted the competition out of the water with their prices.

Am i worth buying one of these Patriot Torqx 64GB drives or should i be looking at a better drive for my rig?

At present i have a pair of 300GB velo raptors for my C: drive and a pair of 2TB for my bulk data, 8GB 1066 RAM, Asus Striker extreme 2, QX6850.

I will be looking to upgrade soon (i think), i run a pair of 8800GTX's. CPU and GPU's all watercooled.

Hi there

The TorqX is a very good performing drive and at this price a true bargain, but I know there is only 6 or 7pc left now so will be amazed if they don't sell out by end of the week.

tempting indeed, but my question is. given the rest of the Spec of my PC, would i be better buying a faster drive, or are these drives better in the eyes of "bang for your buck"

Have decided to go down the SSD route for the O.S. and a few essential apps.

What I've read leads me to believe that windows etc will load much faster than running on standard hd's - even 2 x raptors on Raid 0- BUT it's way too expensive to consider replacing main hd storage with one (or more) of these.

(Obviously if you can afford to buy 1tb (approx) SSD's then go for it :D)

For myself did consider wether I was THAT bothered if windows etc did load quicker (about half the time that standard HD's do it in) and in the end decided it was but wether you are as (if not more) bothered is your call - even @ £90 still expensive !

Have narrowed my choice down to :-

1) Crucial C300 64gb

2) Vertex 2E 40gb

3) the Patriot Torqx

IMO :-

Read speed and Sata 6gb ready - got to be the Crucial - (the drive for the future?)

Write speed and best using Sata 2 - got to be the Vertex

Bang for buck - the Patriot

Am put of the Patriot by the fact that a firmware update is needed for it to run TRIM (raised a webnote query with OcUk on this - my thanks for the speedy reply :D) - if it were already built in would ,I think, have chosen it but as I'm not ready to run the risk of my b...ls 'ing it up decided to leave it !!

So have narrowed it down to the Crucial or the Vertex but still not decided - the existing thread looking at them both I have found very helpfull!

Hopefully my meanderings :)/:eek: will be of assistance.

The Torqx is the same hardware as a first generation Vertex. Great bang for buck at ~£88.
If you already have a SATA-III motherboard I'd probably get the C300, otherwise save money and get the Torqx.

Perfect, thankyou kindly!

I will give this one a miss, ill hold out for a sata-3 SSD then.

much love (gayness intended)

SOLD OUT, we won't be getting these again, as the Patriot deals are all one offs.

Good decision to the guys who were quick enough to get one. :)

I was watching them go from 7 to 3. Think shall I, no I will wait, looking on the net. Going hmmm Shall I. At 3 I said why not 10 years warranty, will last a long time.

i also bought one! but i am going to fire it into my laptop,
My striker two will be replaced with a Sata 3 board soon.
