*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

My Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC arrived this evening just before 7pm, I hadn't expected it to arrive that late, so was delighted.

I am over the moon with the power consumption of the GTX 460 in idle. With dual-screens or single, the card gracefully ramps down all clocks and voltages, finally reaching 50MHz core, 66MHz memory, and 100MHz shader, 0.8750V. It doesn't matter whether a single-screen or dual-screen is in use, it ramps up/down from this hardcore power-save mode without any flickering! Beats the pants off of a competitors solution in this regard. No need to keep clocks/voltages high, and no flickering = win.

Idle is 33C with the fan at minimum 40%. I think the biggest noise in my case is the three antec fans (P182). I think I might have the HDD cage fan on medium (forgot to check when I opened it), and other fans are on low.

Power usage comparison in idle:

8800GT = 167W idle
GTX 460 = 140W idle

So I'm saving 27W in idle. I'm very pleased with that! :)

Today I received my 2 EVGA 1GB SC GTX460 cards.

Out came the old retired 7800GTXs and in went the new cards. :D

These cards come with a 10 year warranty if registered within 30 days of purchase.

Enabled SLI in NVidia control panel, also enabled PhysX.

Cards were left at default clocks using MSI Afterburner:

GPU - 763MHz
Shader - 1526MHz
Memory - 1900MHz

GPU 1 in slot 1 idle temp - 40c
GPU 2 in slot 3 idle temp - 36c

Max temp when running benchmarks:

GPU 1 - 83c
GPU 2 - 75c

Case cooling: Antec P160 with 2 120mm fans (one front, one rear). Fans running at 50% speed.

Ran 3DMark Vantage and got the following result:

3DMark Score P22323
CPU Score 35772
Graphics Score 19837

Ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark 2.1 with the following settings:

Render: direct3d11
Mode: 1920x1200 fullscreen
Shaders: high
Textures: high
Filter: trilinear
Anisotropy: 4x
Occlusion: enabled
Refraction: enabled
Volumetric: enabled
Replication: disabled
Tessellation: normal

and got the following result:

FPS: 59.8
Scores: 1506
Min FPS: 34.1
Max FPS: 123.5

Now it's time to start fragging! :-)

Any1 yet to replace the original cooler with something else?
Couple hours ago I replaced thermal paste from my gainward glh card.
And I looked at the board, I noticed that the mounting holes for the heatsink
are square! 53x53mm. At murobbs, a finnish hardware forum/news site:
Nickor has a palit gtx 460 sonic one.
he tried Scythe musashi on the card.
It fitted on with a little modifying!

His first results oc'ing
core 875, mem 2020
idle 34*C kombustor 67*C
http://murobbs.plaza.fi/1705044366-post915.html
Hes gonna up pics when he gets it right.

Also Zalman VF2000 has the same mounting holes, I would be interesting trying that.

Some pics

And look at this, I measured the mounting holes are 53x53mm, with diagonal 75mm

And those grey heatsinks, I added them myself, they are Scythe's Vga chip heatsink pack. Im a bit disappointed at the card's looks :D It doesn't look like a card that costs 250euros

Right i had a quick blast at OC'ing my giga and tbh i think all of them can easily hit 800/1600/2000 on stock volts stable.

i ramped mine up to 815/1630/2020 which is stable in OCCT. Tried up to 850/1700/2200 but got some errors. haven't upped any volts yet but tbh i don't think i need to push it any further.
BTW what is the prime suspect for errors? is it the Memory clock?

Memory shouldn't give any errors as its GDDR5 which has ECC.

You'll just get lower FPS as the ECC compensates for the errors.

If you are getting errors in OCCT it will be the GPU clock.

You can safely go up to about 1.1V (most cards are bios locked to 1.086V max), without any problems.

71C is still on the cool side, you've got a good 20C of room to play with, anything 90C or lower in OCCT load is fine. :)

Mine needed 1.0v to be stable at that.

Currently running 850/1700/4200 @ 1.037v.

What settings are you folks using in Metro 2033 on your 460s? Ive tried ity on Very High @ 1920x1080 and it seems very laggy

1920x1080
Very High
DX10
AAA
AF4X
Advanced Physx

Runs sweet as a nut.

Also having a blast with Warhead, 1680x1050, everything enthusiast, no AA, Vsync on, runs between 30-60 FPS, mainly around the 40 FPS mark.

I'm about to put an order in for a Gigabyte gtx 460 1gb OC. Could somebody provide me with some overclocking info? Going to be running it with an i3 @ 4ghz and 4gig Corsair XMS ram/600W Seasonic S16 PSU. Just wondering if there'll be any bottlenecks?

Regards,

Regards,

I have an i3 @ 4.2 and 4GB Corsair XMS and I have my Gigabyte 460 running 800/1600/4000 on stock voltage and it was OCCT stable for 30mins with 0 errors & max temp of 74C. Also got a 512MB 9800GT in as dedi Physx card.

What FPS are you guys getting on Just Cause 2 bench?

Yup the Giga cards will run easily @ 800/1600/4000 on stock voltage which is what mine is running at right now. Spotify, Skype, Windows live mail and this page open and the card is currently idling at 31'C.
