Jesus Christ! Don't forget to put your seat belts on!

Is their actually a independent news source that doesn't add its own spin?

the bbc is pretty good but as you've just seen (and have seen in quite a few threads recently) people either, misrepresent articles, ignore huge chunks of them or just out right lies about their content.

If you listen to people on here the bbc are pro Islamic Zionists, anti immigration left wingers and asylum supporting racists.

he ran one of them over!?

The officer should have apologised for getting in the nice old fella's way, and offered to wax the car....

Given what he did i'm surprised the court didn't refer him to the DVLA if he attempted to use the "confused" line in defence.
iirc any court has the legal responsibility to inform the DVLA if a driver may not be fit to drive, even if the driver is found not guilty of a specific offence, and admitting that you, as driver were "confused" about why a police car was following you with lights and sirens after you drove off, would in my mind be a good reason to lose the licence..

He nearly ran one of them over so they say ;)

Er, no:

A court heard yesterday that Mr Whatley, right, was originally pulled over in a country lane in Monmouthshire by traffic police who tried to issue him with a fine for not wearing a seat belt.
But when an officer went round to the passenger side, the car lurched forward and he was knocked over.

All standard procedure. Nothing to see here, move along! :p

It may well be standard procedure, but I think that the way in which two Police Officers handled that situation was heavy handed. Regardless of whether he had been convicted 6 years ago for having no Tax Disc and using abusive language doesn't in my opinion warrant jumping on his car like a reanactment of a starsky and hutch episode and smashing his car up. Simply opening the door and asking him to leave the vehicle would have probably sufficed.

The fact that the two officers have been suspended pending an investigation suggests that not everything is above board from their point of view either.

of course it is

Take it you didnt read any of the thread, or even my post above yours then ?

Lets not forget kids

Obstructing police and not obeying the law appears to be hobby of his.

i read some of it but not where everyones bumming the police saying it was appropriate action by them and i watched the video. following a car being not far off 1/4mile behind it at all times then when it stops smashsmashsmash cave all the glass in and open the door then walk off not pulling him out straight away hmmm
its not appropriate, end of.
anyways wheres the video of the copper being knocked over? why wasnt he charged with knocking an copper over? surely if he did do that, then he would be charged

Did you read the thread?

The officers were using those tactics due to being almost run over on a routine stop, followed by a 17 minute chase and stinger deployment.

Which is a little bit different to a 6 year old conviction that they wont have been aware of..

IMO it was a bit silly jumping on the bonnet, but he may have felt safer there than in front of the 4x4.

That part is normally the way things are done, usually an officer is suspended while an investigation is going on, same as how teachers are suspended if they are being investigated for something. That part at least is not a reflection of their point of view either way.

Shock is a recognized method of preventing someone driving off for a second time.

I didn't know acting like savage primates, jumping on the bonnet and literally lunging at the drivers' window baton in hand was part of police protocol. An investigation has been opened which obviously shows the higher ups believe something went wrong. I know it's protocol for officers to be suspended pending investigations, but the fact that one exists in the first place says a lot.

It's plain as day this was a botch job. A typical respected police force in a first world nation would not act like Zimbabwean Zanu-PF thugs when it comes to stop checks.

I bet you the officers will face disciplinary action and all the aggressive police apologists in this thread will get egg on their face.

LOL, dont hold back zipp0r !

It would seem that the Chief Inspector who suspended the two Policemen obviously knows little about policing also. As he shared my sentiment in a statement of their unacceptable behaviour.

Jumping on an elderly mans landrover and kicking in the windscreen is not a regularly used distraction technique.

As much as I respect the Police and the job they do, in this instance the two Policemen where wrong whichever way you cut it. They knew from their earlier detainment of the man in question that he was not an immediate threat to their safety.

How do you know the officers who finally managed to stop him, were anything to do with his earlier incursion?

These could have been motor traffic officers who are used to car offenses/chases. Furthermore, when they finally managed to the stop the car, why risk the vehicle pulling off again - thus risking lives - and not just disable the vehicle as QUICKLY as possible.

My first take on the video was it was outrageous. But thinking about it, I think their actions were most likely absolutely spot on.

Hardly savage primates, I've seen this response plenty of times on Road Wars for people refusing to stop so don't think he got different treatment to anyone else to be honest.

And an investigation has to be opened for complaints about the police so don't start assuming guilt from that.
