Yep, it's a 'spec me'. Didn't want to join the horde and include that in the title tough. :p

I'm currently looking for a large bag to take on holiday with me; preferably one with wheels, etc. Ideally, I want the thing to last. Durable is the operative word here. That, and practical. :)

Now, being the noob I am, I'm unsure of how many litres I should ideally be looking for. My guess for a week is possibly around the 80-100 litre mark?

Secondly, I'm unsure of it's worth spending lots of money on such a bag. I've had a cheap tacky thing in the past for about £20 but it broke almost immediately and my mother is adament that paying large sums is pointless as she's had 'expensive bags' in the past before which still just end up breaking and it's better to get something cheap anyway.

So, any suggestions and/or comments regarding the above please?

TIA.

We use Antler luggage. It can be on the expensive side but it does last. I would suggest that if you can see it before you buy.

It's a bag.... Normal people just go to a shop and buy one...... I suggest you head to your nearest department store and see what size you actually need rather than ordering some branded tosh off a surf website. Anything by antler, samsonite will be good and last. I've got a couple of jeep bags too and they're wearing well.

Try get a military issued one, there awesome.

No wheels etc, but soo roomy and can change the handles so you can put it on your back.

Though can't seem to find any of them on ebay, there is from time to time.

I bought an Antler Size Zero and couldn't be happier with it. The "medium" size was under £100, weighs less than 3kg and is expandable from 58L to 66L capacity.

I know it's a bag and if you read the opening post you'll see that I don't give a stuff about a brand or price-tag. I'm after durability within budget. As I haven't had the luxury of having to travel that often, I'm asking for first hand knowledge/recommendations as the only bags I've had in the past have broke and I wish to avoid repeating that.

The part in bold is all you really needed to post. The rest is just condesending. But thank you for the part in bold.

If you go to a department store you'll soon learn what good quality is.

You were recommended antler, and samsonite, then you posted up some quicksilver junk! So I re-recommended them!

Just get yourself down to a shop, you can't buy stuff like this online unless you know specifically what you want, you can always find it in john lewis or summink and then try to get it cheaper online.

what exactly do you want and where are you going / what are you doing?

if its for a general holiday then you really dont need to spend £100!

The quicksilver one was the bag I was looking at prior to this thread. Just because someone's recommended me X doesn't mean that Y suddently becomes irrelevent.

I would go down to the store(s) if I had the time. I do doubt I'll be able to spot the difference unless it was really obvious as a bag to me is just a bag. I know from past experiences which bags I've had that are good and which are bad, but as for others, I have no clue. The reason I was looking at the Quicksilver one is because I like it and I've also had Quicksilver backpacks in the past which have lasted a very, very long time.

I thought the last bag I used on holiday looked durable (unbranded, bought from some department store) but then the wheels went and snapped off. I'm after recommendations so I can narrow down my search - I thought I made that quite obvious - so I'm not quite sure what you're trying to achieve by trying to jump down my throat? I'm not an incapable child. I'll take away these suggestions and then work out what I want like a normal human being.

If you have any specific examples of bags you've found hard-wearing, please feel free to share them. I don't wish to argue the toss anymore.

I don't want to spend £100. It's just there as an idea of the extreme end of the scale. £200 for example, I am not willing to pay on any bag. £100 I could justify if it was absolutely worth it. :p

It's going to be for general travel. So, whenever I go away for a period of time where I can't quite fit it all into my backpack. I tend to use and abuse bags until they're on death's door, so if spending a little more means I don't have to go out and do all this again in five year's time, then I'd consider it worth it.

I don't understand this.

Unless you're someone who's jetting around the world for 2/3s of the year, you can't really go far wrong.

You just need something big enough to fit all your crap in
