Hi,

Wonder what the best set of headphones are for under £40. Will be used for gaming and watching movies really. Need to be pretty quiet on the outside as i share a room. Also are wireless headphones any good?

Thanks Rhys

If you can go to £50, you can get some Goldring DR150's.

Under £40, I've read a few positives about the JVC HA-RX700 for around £32. They look really good value.

DR150's leak sound, like a sieve leaks water. Great headphones I agree, but not for someone who doesn't want to annoy others in the same room.

Yep, didn't read the OP post fully. :o Have you heard much about the JVC's (Marsman)?

OP, check out JVC HA RX700 in google. They get great reviews and are often compared to much more expensive headphones. A few people are saying they don't leak too much either. For £30 they are a no brainer really.

The Creative's are just so uncomfortable and the cups barely cover your ears. They sound ok but, imo, aren't worth the money.

Yes, I have seen the JVC's recommended by quite a few people on different sites, however I was unsure whether it was the RX700's or the 900's.

Creative headphones are probably ok for gaming, nothing more. They certainly are not great, as some claim. Someone on a different forum asked if the Fatal1ty's would be great for listening to music. Some people have no desire for the music they listen to, to have some quality to it, just so long as there is noise.

While i probably would struggle tp tell the difference in quality, ive always used a clip on mic so i might as well get the best headphones for the money.

Coming from a set of Everglide S-500 Professional which i snapped the jack on :(. No idea if they are decent or not but hoping for something similar quality wise to them really.

Mine were only £15 or £20, can't remember. They come highly recommended at places like

www.head-fi.org

where people get really, really involved in headphone testing.

Where the JVC's also get good reports as well.

An RX700 owners thread here.

I'm tempted to get a a pair and try the 'felt mod' that appears to improve them further.

I'm not saying these will be amazing sounding headphones but after a burn in they, according to others, will sound much better than many other more expensive headphones.

Thanks ;)

That place does make me laugh at times. Lots of people have a different set of (very expensive) headphones for each type of music that they listen to.

Nothing wrong with that, but it illustrates the level of dedication they have for music and headphones :)

Some men have too many watches, and too many headphones etc, then complain that women buy too many shoes. :p

Thanks for the help ive order the JVC's

Oh god, please be good! :) I'll feel guilty if you don't like them.

I hope they turn out to be a good buy for you. Lot's of people who know their stuff seem to regard them as giving much better performance than their price suggests. They do say that they need to be 'burned in'. Give them a few weeks of use and they should sound even better.

They arrived today, not as comfy as my old ones but im sure theyll get a lot better. Sounds seems great, cant complain about it though ive no idea if they are actually good they sound it to me so im happy. Seems like a bargain imo. Thanks for the advice
