Where has all the pork gone?

Pork seems everywhere in restaurants

I had a Trio of pork very recently , Belly, Cheek and Tenderloin in pancetta

I bloody love pork - belly is seen in lots of places but can't say i see many other dishes in restaurants.

I cook it a lot at home, slow cooked it's amazing, so tender, get a big joint and you got beast sandwiches all week.

Had slow cooked pork rips on sunday, was ace.

Can't say as I have noticed it appearing on menus less. In fact having a quick look at the Menus of the local restaurants I normally go to I would say there is more choice of fish, with beef/chicken/pork being about equal and lamb being less common on the menu.

I do like pork though, I miss Kassler chops :(

While we are on the subject of pork, why are they classed by some as unclean?

Most likely, because their neighbours ate them. Plus they lived in a different environment in which raising pigs wasn't that easy. So pigs were that "disgusting" thing the neighbouring civilisations eat *ew* and that got later morphed into religious doctrine.

Unlike explanations linked to anything about the food chain or 20/20 hindsight explanations linked to parasites, etc. the idea that food biases (both religious and otherwise) are mostly about differentiating other fits well with multiple food biases in multiple civilisations.

there is nothing nicer than boiled ham with cabbage and creamy mashed potatoes. well i am irish:D

You forgot the parsley sauce, and the potatoes should be boiled with the skins on which you then peel at the table not mashed! :D

Never been a fan of belly pork. Quite partial to a nice leg of pork joint or pork chops for sunday dinner. Pigs feet for a juicy snack anyone???

One of our favourites is roast loin of pork with crispy crackling, served with gravy, apple sauce, roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables.

Pork is everywhere. Picked up some lovely Gloucestershire Old Spot sausages for the BBQ at lunchtime.

ScubaScorpion approves of this post!
