better than quitting though?

Its considered bad manners to hang around in a game where you have clearly lost.

You will often see pros GG out of games where they have a huge base but their army has just been slaughtered. Why delay the inevitable when you can load up a new game and start afresh. You virtually never achieve anything by delaying a defeat. You'll stand a better chance of climbing the ladder by playing more games and winning the ones you can win than by drawing out every game for no apparent reason.

Had some noob try proxy rax my base earlier I had a drone in his base and it was a bit of a give away that all he had was 3 supply depots and nothing else. So I put down a spine crawler and a bling nest in my base pumped out a few lings spotted his 3 rax sat back for a min waiting for my lings to amass and my spine to build made a few banelings took out his building bunker with some lings and his marines with my blings. He lifted 2 of his 3 rax and floated home, I killed the 3rd.

At this point I knew I was ahead I had 2 bases he had 1. So I droned up. He tired a hellion drop but I dealt with that with my queens. I then massed lings took a third and attacked his base. He lifted off (predictably) so I had an overlord follow the CC, put down a spire and lolled. Mutas popped chased his CC around for a while then he realised it was futile and GG'd.

I mean WTF really did he expect to make a miraculous come back with a starport 2 rax and a CC All of which had been floating around for over 3 min when I had total map control 3 bases and a huge army. Seems Terrans think that floating off and postponing defeat is a valid tactic.

Again same with Toss if you have no army and no income whats the point in building a load of pylons which will show up on the map anyway as you have no nexus?

As someone who had kind of lost interest in RTS games since CoH, I am really loving this. Really impressed with performance, runs smoothly on my 2 year old laptop at 1920x1080 on medium settings.

Think I'm finally getting the hang of this game a bit! I've ditched Terran and gone Zerg, I find them so much more enjoyable to play. I haven't ventured online yet but I'm beating the AI on hard quite easily now. I'm basically just getting Zerglings and Roaches / Hydras up as quick as possible and attacking in quite small numbers but really early on. Seems to be working well. :)

Might venture online tonight!

Ah lame, finally finished my placement matches and it's put me in 2nd tier silver, way higher than i should be i imagine due to that guy quitting while he was owning me D:

[EDIT] Yup, as i expected, got my ass totally handed to me. So i can only assume i basically just need to lose loads of matches until it falls down to my level of skill?

Yes, but it is hit and miss. There are some really good players, but also some really bad players in the silver league.

I would fall into the latter :p

I'm fine until i have to start mobilizing units, then my base management goes to pot. I'll have a perfect flow going, perfectly using all of my resources as they come, then suddenly holy crap i've run out of unit cap and i've got 2000 minerals to spend.

Just play normally, you may still in silver, but if you keep losing > 50% it'll match you against progressively lower ranked players.

There's three ratings in this system, your league, your 'score' and your hidden match maker ranking. That hidden one is the most important, and it seldom has any relationship with your score or league.

Last night I was getting utterly hammered time and time again (not really excessively, just every game I either got cheesed or made a mistake, or otherwise got outplayed, not straight up rolled though), and by 1am it was match making me against gold players...

I see what you mean about there being both good and bad players in silver, i seem to either get steamrolled or do the steamrolling. Won 1 out of 3 games so not bad for someone that doesn't play RTS' much i guess :)

still on practise matches as I just can;t win 1v1 - fine when 2v2 but just seem not to be able to get the hang of it yet.

55 min game just now and despite what I thought was a good start, he had starport up inside 10 mins and was just running battlecruisers at me time and time again followed by Thor's!!

Then you could have kicked his ass with a rush of marines and marauders inside of 12 minutes. So many people try to tech up, but in the meantime build hardly any "early game" units. Did this to someone who had 3 starports once.

Indeed, i've noticed my win/lose ratio improved drastically when i concentrated more on getting units into the field and pressuring my opponent asap as opposed to concentrating on farming to build high strength units. If you control the map well enough the resources for your big hitters will arrive soon enough, and the enemy will be under pressure the whole time.

Assuming your early game units haven't won the match for you, you can then steamroll with the big guns. That is, unless the other guy is better at microing than you, which is most people in comparison to me :p

Me and my mate have been doing a lot of 2v2's. got positioned in a bronze ladder and we ended yesterday at about pos 30 so we moved up about 50 places.

Before yesterday we were mainly getting raped more then us winning, kept getting rushed etc so we done some rushing ourselves, bunker building in their base asap etc and we'd win, except one time when we got there and it was rammed with protoss fighters lol. feels a bit dirty rushing but happened to us loads.

Then I done a 1v1 placement and won some how lol, hopefully do a few more tonight and get placed.

Still struggle a bit with base management, too often i have loads of unspent resources.
