So last Monday (2nd Aug) my Dad took money for me to the bank (Ulster Bank) and lodged it as it was to pay a credit card HSBC. He used the Express pay service (I think it's called that) where he puts money in an envelope and posts it through the hole in the bank. He usually does this for me but goes to the Northern bank instead and there's never a problem. Well, the credit card was due to be paid by Friday and my I got a call 2 days ago from HSBC to say that the credit card wasn't paid and they slapped a late fee on my account so I contacted the Ulster Bank (where my dad made the payment) and they can't find any record of a payment or anything. I called my Dad today and he said that he through the receipt away.

The bank (where the lodgement was made) said that they can't do anything as they can't find. I said that there is bound to be a way that they could trace it and they said unfortunately not as they need the receipt.

Is there anything I can do? it's £100 and I haven't got that spare atm :(

I would be so p'eed off if I was you. I'm not sure what you can do, maybe keep pestering the manager to look at cctv of the time your dad dropped the money off?

On another note this is why I'm a bit OCD about keeping my paying in receipts and other receipts.

Off topic but I wish people would stop using "OCD" in such a casual manner, it's annoying for those of us that do suffer it to some degree... :(

Not being funny here, but if he usually does this for you why did he go to a different bank? I mean, you can't make a deposit to a Northern bank account at Ulster bank, it is simply not possible. Was he making the deposit to a different account?
It is possible thye have spotted the error and forwarded the deposit detaisl to the other bank, but this would be such a rare occurance i would expect someone at the branch to actually recall it occurring.

Only thing to do, is get down the branch, physically request they look at CCTV, and physically check the dropbox. The express drop doesn't issue receipts either, just a tearoff strip where you write the details of the transaction down yourself. So quite what use that could be is beyond me, as it is no proof of actual drop.

Think you misunderstood. He went to the Ulster bank as it's close to here and he had other bills to pay so he just paid my credit card there. He paid my HSBC credit card bill at the Ulster Bank, he usually pays at the Northern Bank. You can pay at any bank.
