So i've been wondering what the best SSD is for me. I'm a big gamer, but I also do photoshop stuff, montage making for the games. Still gotta make montages of all my HD travel footage.

I have somewhat decided to get a 64Gb C300 and a 40GB vertex 2E. This way I boot drive with games on the C300 and PowerDirector and Photoshop on the 40GB.

What are your thoughts/opinions?

Using different SSDs is bad then?

I'd prefer the 2E personally, but the thing swaying me is the fact the C300 read speed being 70mb higher.

Maybe the Vertex 2E 90GB is the best 'overall' choice. I do more gaming than video stuff though. Vertex 2E 90GB seems to be closest to satisfy all conditions.

If you want faster game load times, or have games like FSX where its constantly loading large amounts of textures then by all means get a vertex 2 for OS and Photoshop and a C300 for games. There is NO issue using different SSDs, what your thinking of doing is using the strengths of both drives rather that getting one big one to fit all situations.

I personally have a c300 for my OS and FSX and mechanical HDDs for other games and backups.

Well I am back to confused again :P. So You're pro 2 different SSDs.

Anyone else got counter-opinions? Or agree perhaps?

Of course another bonus of this is 64+40 = 104GB of space vs 90GB for an extra £9

IVive got 2x128gb crucial c-300 in raido, cut my boot time from 3mins to 18seconds,my best upgrade yet,so why not get 2x64gb c-300 and raid them youl get read 550/write 140

SSD for Boot / OS / User Profile. Mechanical for everything else.

SSD fixes all the random access seek all over the disk stuff that the OS does. Once that contention issue is dealt with, everything else is basically loading large files off of contiguous areas of a disk - something conventional hard disks are very capable of.

Get as large a SSD as you can afford, less hassle to deal with moving stuff on and off mechanical disks.

Nah, I have 1 SSD and a couple of mechanical HDDs. What I was trying to say was its perfectly ok to run different SSDs in the same system. If you can afford get 1 Vertex 2 and 1 C300 and use each to their best application. If not just get 1 Vertex 2. Its not anymore hassle having 2 SSDs nor should your have any issues.

I've also been advised to wait till Q4 for the G3 SSDs to be released with 25nm. Time isn't of the essence for me. Does that seem like a decent option?

I'd go for a Vertex 2 if you're gonna be writing to it a fair bit. I've got a C300 which I've bought as a boot drive and when I tested it, it was amazing but the write speeds are poor in comparison.
