**** Original Starcraft 2 Thread ****

Note to self: Stop being overly aggressive and learn to pull units back when I'm clearly losing and wait for reinforcements/turtle for a little bit :(

Also, got two codes going, e-mail in trust first two will get them :D

The mix of players in the Bronze leagues is really odd. I had a 7 match winning streak last night against people who were clearly newcomers to the game.

Then in the next two games I come up against some very clever tactics (both Zerg iirc)and APM counts that we're very high.

I lost a good chunk of the point gained from the wins by losing those two matches :(

I think some people purposely lose their placement matches so they get placed in the lower leagues.

This, but also if you were on a 7 match winning streak it is going to match you against a better player - possibly even from a higher league.

That's the match making algorithm matching you up against better players. If you're on a winning streak just after placements, the system really still doesn't know just how skilled you are, it needs a way of boxing you somewhere and putting you against good players will let it do that.

To be honest what league you are in is a bit irrelevant since you could be in bronze and match made against diamond players.

I've played a couple bronze players since being in diamond and they have been tough games, because clearly these are good players who for whatever reason didn't do well in the placements.

I had this 3 times in 2v2's last night, won 2 and lost 1. I'll upload the replays so you can see how I deal with it as Terran.

Terran are particularly vulnerable to this as the SCVs building barracks invariable get targeted.

Definitely worth a watch :D (except for the ones where I **** up)

In terms of cannon rushing, Proxy Rax, proxy gateways, 6-10 pool rushing, lifting off and moving your CC. I personally don't agree with those strategies.
They may win you a bunch of games at the lower levels. But they don't really teach you much, and you will lose a hell of a lot of games in the higher leagues if you continue to use these build. IMO its fine to do them against your regular playing buddy as a bit of a laugh. But in ladders:
A) I find these builds a bit Rude.
B) They don't require much skill to pull off
C) Once you play against a semi-experienced player they almost always fail
D) If they fail you will almost certainly lose.
E) Winning using these strats, does not really benefit you in any way.

That said, if you can incorporate these strategies in the later game (and not as a **** you for beating me strat) without making it an all in. I fully support that.

Interesting game I just had :)

On Kulas Ravine, TvT. Started out with a fast marauder build plan, so refinery + barracks on 10, depot after barracks are up. But changed my mind and went for marines, which totally nullified the point of my refinery :) but anyway!

Got about 6 marines up, headed over to his base, had marines in the queue with rally to a current marine. Scouted bottom right, nothing, bottom left, nothing, 3/4 up to the top left and a knock at the door, was like "ffs!", so had to park marines and zip down to answer it. Came back up, and had Reapers in my base (about 6 of them), had to drag all my marines back quickly. By that time all my SCV's were gone, lifed of my 2 rax and orb command. So he smashed some of my depots.

Marines killed them, so headed straight back to his base, landed building and pumped out some SCV's. Thankfully I had enough energy at orb command for 2x MULE so that helped massively to come back. After that just pumped marines, build up a factory for hellion / tank as he was going heavy marine / marauder. Finally got into his base, got everything down, and he lifts his command center and flies it off across the map :/ So had to get vikings to go shoot it, as my Vikings were producing he's like: "rdy to give up?", my Viking arrives, he called me a lamer, and he just spams land/unland so had to wait for Viking no. 2 to I could land one and keep one in the air.

Odd game :P
