Do you "Race" with a wheel

They are a bit cumbersome iv-tecman but once you manage to work around the initial flaws of clamping down and getting it stable. The amount of fun to be had is ridiculous, I love it so much.

why are wheels so expensive? does G27 improve gaming experience on grid?

GRID is absolutely amazing with a wheel, loads of fun.

I put my G27 on my wheel stand pro last night and made some adjustments. I turned the plate that supports the wheel around the other way which enabled me to do two things. I was able to put the gears on the left and lower, and the compression clamp was located on the clutch side of my leg, so I didnt touch it when braking (which can be annoying.)

I have had an absolutel blast on DIRT 2 last night and today. The races in Morroco have been particularly brilliant. When you hit a corner right and manage to drift a section at like 100mph it true awesomeness... I love the way the way the force feedback lets yo know when you have lost traction, it such a totally immersive experience. I can see now why after owning a wheel people then go out and buy a massive screen or another 2 screens to have the surround visuals too...

If you are thinking of getting a G25/G27 or any other wheel (make sure it has force feeback) there is no better time. With the arrival of F1 2010 on teh24th of next month, and Rfactor 2 etc its probably the best time... do it!!! You'll love it.

Are racing games easier with a wheel?

and is it hard changing gears manually as I don't drive nor do I do it with the keyboard/controller so I don't have a clue what to do?

Its not hard to change gears manually, its actually real fun. But what is more fun is the G25/G27 shift paddles. I dont play any racing game in automatic.. it has to be manual, and the paddles make it a lot of fun.
have a look at you tube to see some examples of people using it..

Check out "Inside Sim Racing" On "You Tube".. you see decent race games and hardware reviewed, and you get to perv at jessica Lopez for 30mins :)

Changing gears with a keyboard is nearly impossible, with a pad it can be done with practice, problem with the pad you're using your hands, well fingers... You need to get a techinque that works, and some just can't press the accelator and change up, then brake and change down, then corner and hits the apex's right, or even pull off an overtake all at the same time with a pad..

Steering wheel means you use your feet to speed up or slow down, and use the wheel to turn, and your fingers to press the flappy paddles if you're wheel has them, its actually easier with a wheel.. Its more natural..

I'm maybe going to have to invest in a wheel stand. I'm a fairly decent racer, but I hate changing gears with a pad, you always end up downshifing or upshifting too early or too late.. and in a F1 game, every mistake can cost vital seconds.. not bad when racing as a rookie, but crank up the AI, and it becomes really tricky. With a wheel you have more of a chance..

upon saying that, some can really race, and hold their own with a pad, but most top lappers use wheels.

I have just started using a G27 wheel tonight. And have to say after a few laps its so much better than a pad. I've never used one before but its so much fun. I only played Gran turismo prologue so far but it came with a 60 minute rfactor demo so i'll give that a go tomorrow.

yeah managed to snap a g25 right before their price sky rocketed and retailers run out of stock. when I opened the package and felt the smell of leather I knew that I had bought a sweet toy :D. Its more like an investement as I know that for any new racing game that comes out my g25 will always be there.

When you set it up on your PC install the profiler.

Different games have different handling so this makes it easy for you to set your configuration for each game..

If you have DIRT 2, try the rotation around 180 degrees, I find this to be the best setting, and if you dont have DIRT 2 for PC, go get it!!! you'll love it!

Yeah I installed the profiler, thanks. I had Dirt 2 on the 360 so im not sure if I wanna get it again for the pc, unless I see it cheap somewhere. Im mainly waiting for F1 2010 for the PC and Gran turismo 5 on the PS3. And in the meantime GT5 prologue and maybe iracing.

I use the Porsche GT3 RS v2 with the ClubSport pedals (USB) and a Rennsport Wheel Stand and various extras. Got to say its the best wheel / pedal combination I've owned so far. I've been lucky to own quite a list.

How does the GT3 RS v2 compare with the Logitech G25/27. Looking to spend around £275 on a new wheel/pedals in readiness for F1 2010 (on PC) and GT5 (on PS3). Looks like a toss up between the Fanatec and the G27.

Cheers

Well I had the G25 before it, I have just given it to a mate as honestly I don't see how there is a comparison.

The ClubSport pedals are simply miles better. The wheel is a little bigger and thicker which I find better. It's softer for better for long stints. The motors are smoother than the 25. I've heard the motors were improved on the 27 but having not tried I cannot comment.

Personally I don't regret the spend at all. For sheer comfort and performance I find it better. But let's be honest it's just up to date. The 25 has been around for a while now so I would have expected the GT3 to be an improvement - which is was.

I will say though, the delivery time is silly. If you order from them direct you will be waiting 2 weeks at least.

Hi Snubber...

Have a look at the Inside Sim Racing channel, they have some really great reviews on the show, its very good.

In this show they review the GT3 and the G27 amongst a few others.

Enjoy!!
