*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

My Gigabyte GTX 460 1gb OC version arrived today. You can instantly tell it's got a much more substantial heat-sink than the Palit card - it's much heavier and feels much more solid. Ironically the Gigabyte was around the same price as my Palit card.

The cooling solution looks better than all the other cards I've seen, the only one that gives it a run for the money is the MSI Cyclone, which doesn't have cooling on the VRM chips.

I'll be putting it in my PC tonight, along with a blu-ray drive.

EDIT:

It's installed and you just cannot hear it AT ALL over my case fans, even under max load.

I overclocked it to 800/1600/2000 and played an hour long session of Just Cause 2 with nearly everything at max except with no AA at 1680x1050, and it ran over 30fps constantly and the max temp was 64 degrees, with no noticable fan noise. Idle temp is about 36 degrees. I am very pleased indeed.

I got teh same 460 as you did and the gigabyte fans are superb for noise levels even under load. All I can hear is my CPU cooler fan...can't really hear the GPU at all. The gigabyte 460 is the absolute dog's balls :D

I'd say the Gigabyte and MSI cards are so much better in terms of quality, cooling and noise than the other cards that it's a no-brainer to get one of these over the competition.

They're no more expensive than the lesser quality cards too.

My Giga now sits at 24C when doing normal day-to-day stuff (browsing/Spotfiy etc)

Cool as a cucumber!

Mine doesn't run that cool! About 33C now, but I do have an 8800GT installed which pushes the idle temp up a tad.

Gotta say, great buy this card, runs Dirt 2 DX11 at 1920x1080 with everything maxed at a solid 60 FPS (vsync on).

Cracking card.

That gigabyte 460 1024mb card at 179 pounds is getting tempting. Was waiting for 5850 prices to come down but this seems to have very simular performance.

Sill don't know if to wait a bit longer and stretch some more mileage out of my 8800gts or bite the bullet and change now.

Don't quite understand how it stays this cool! Admittedly I only have Firefox, Spotify, Outlook and Steam running and just browsing & listening to music, but damn, that's cold! lol

What's your ambient temperature? My ambient temperatures is higher than your GPU core chrisgt, so either you live somewhere very cold or that reading is wrong! :p

My GTX 460 idles around 32C in Antec P182 with case fans set to low (fans higher than low are too noisy).

I must say, I'm very very impressed with the GTX 460. Nvidia really are back on form with this one. Everything has just worked perfectly. I'm most impressed that it idles at 50MHz core 0.875V and uses hardly any power, and that is with dual-screens. It can seamlessly step all the clocks & voltages without any hint of flickering.

It's great being able to overclock and it still steps down into its maximum power-save mode without skipping a beat.

Currently running 800MHz core and it's rock-solid in OCCT GPU. Nvidia Inspector is my favourite tool now.

I have an Antec 300 with all fans set to low, and ambient temp is 24C. This is whats shown for the GPU temp in CPUID HWMonitor and GPU-Z. And it is overclocked to 850/1700/2000 @ 1.087v! Very strange! Hits mid 70's when using OCCT.

Not so strange, you're obviously living in a fridge!

:p

BTW, running mine solidly now at 850/1700/4400 @ 1.037V.

1.037v!? Mad man! :p Mine is fine in ATI tool artifact test for 30mins, but OCCT murders it! lol

Mafia 2, AVP, Crysis, JC2, Metro 2033, CSS all run absolutely fine though. Temp never really goes above 60C in games and they all look great - that is my 'stability test'! Haha

PS. I like having my windows open, so I guess you sissies might class it as 'cold'! Haha
