As a different viewpoint to the Overtaking thread -

Why do people drive at 40mph everywhere? :(

Single and dual carriageways, straight and twisty road plus when they eventually hit a 30mph zone they don't slow down .

Admittedly some speed up to 50 on a straight single road but do they not remember the limit is 60? and what's with doing 60 on a dual carriageway!!

If they think 40 is fuel efficient it isn't most cars are most efficient at 55 but driving technique usually blows that out of the water. If people are worried about using fuel get a more efficient car.

Andi.

Lack of observation, lack of awareness, lack of caring for their quality of driving, in-breeding, the list goes on.

Because they're not in a rush? Because they can't drive properly? Who cares! Man up, either sit behind them and get on with it or overtake.

try getting to the other side of town in great yarmouth when tourist season is on, slow drivers are nothing compared to horse and carts and this slow arsed road train.

I drive up to the limit by myself, but if carrying grand parents (for example) then I go about 50 as its more comfortable for them.

Pull the relay out :p

On Scanias, its a fuse which is on the same circuit as the indicators, which is not good! -they put it on that circuit to stop drivers pulling it... - not that I've tried... ahem. ;)

Awaits "truck drivers don't indicate" remarks.... :D

I've found that a lot of people don't know what the national speed limit is. Even my parents (aged 59-60) - I asked what the national speed limit on a single carriageway road is. They both thought it was 40mph. Asked about a dual carriage way, both thought it was 60mph. I've asked loads of people this and this is the most popular answer by far.

I think it would be useful to get rid of the national speed limit sign and just have an actual number - it would be far less confusing for people.

If I simply need to get from a - b I'll generally drive at the speed that feels comfortable and safe.

Put me on the A686 however and I'll unleash the little fiesta for what it is.

I think some people find the speed restrictions too complicated so stick to 30 - 40 everywhere to be safe.

That certainly could help. It would also help if whoever it is determines local speed limits and plants sped limit signs could resist the temptation to vary the speed limit every ¼ mile.

On another front, it would alos make sense if 30mph speed limit signs were erected on some straight, wide, urban roads where people seem to believe that the limit is actually 40 or 50 and get very upset if one does actually drive at 30mph :(

Was stuck behind one of these people today for a good 20 mins, Shame the girlfriend was driving otherwise i would have pointlessly taken over haha.

I came out of work today to turn left and had some ******** coming up right behind me, he looked to be doing about 70 and decided to horn at me and do some sarcastic clap at me which I saw in the mirror, and I'm like your the one who's been driving over the speed limit. He was coming from a 40 area, but just after the turn out of work it is a 60. As I drive along about 55 or something he seems to slow right down and I get away from him.. Wtf?

Sure you didn't just pull out on him when he was doing 70 and you were doing all of 5 causing him to have to slow down rather than waiting until he had passed?
