can you fall to sleep lay on your back?

No idea. By the time I fall asleep I've been dozing for a while anyway, so I don't know what position I'm in.

In related news, it never ceases to amaze me how much babies move in their sleep. Our 1 year old sleeps in a sleeping bag thing, but still manages to crawl up and down the bed, and we find her in all kinds of positions.

I have the same 'routine' each night - get into bed and lie on my back, then after a few mins flip over onto my right side then onto my left side and fall alseep. I can't seem to fall asleep on my back or any other way apart from on my left side for some reason.

Fall asleep only on side or front.
Wake up on side nearly always.

Tried but could never sleep on my back.

My usual posture is on the side, one leg stretched ( the one on the top) one tilted at my knee 135 deg ( the bottom leg) and a little to the front. Bottom arm under my head or under my pillow. Top arm/hand, flat on the mattress.

Where did you get that picture from Snowdog?

The sleeping bag helps a lot though. If you take them out of the sleeping bag they get stuck in the side rails of the cot and all sorts of ways.

I can but then again I've fallen asleep in a number of places where it shouldn't be possible... the worst being the time I fell asleep on the log ride at disney world I have to say probably the most abrupt awakening I've ever experienced

I always sleep on my side. I associate sleeping on my back with the 'dead' position, such as when you're placed in a coffin. If I sleep on my back I convince myself I'm gonna die!

Never have this problem after a few alcoholic beverages however..

Quite surprised at the amount of people that can sleep on their front.

On my side with the covers between my legs in the only way I can sleep in bed. I am however quite good at sleeping pretty much anywhere - laying on the couch, on the beach, in the car/coach/train and even sat at my desk :D

Back is nigh on impossible for me. I once had a 48hour stomach bug which made my tummy very sore and lying on my side would make me sick - on my back i felt relatively fine but sleep was almost none existent :(

I usually sleep on my back on warmer nights and the sheets are nice and cooool or on my side on the colder nights!

only place i could find it sorry ><

I've never experienced sleep paralysis, I'm really curious as it sounds intriguing.

You 'experience' it every time you sleep - you aren't meant to be aware of it else you hallucinate n stuff

I can sleep anywhere, anyhow, virtually anytime. I generally fall asleep on my back and stay pretty much in exactly the same position for the whole night. Side is also OK, but in the night I generally turn over anyway.

I seem to get progressively worse at getting to sleep. I used to be able to get in bed, get comfy and then be asleep. Now its only possible to drift of if I am laying on my side which on its own is fairly normal but I have to be facing out of the bed and not facing the other half (make of that what you will :D). Add to that I have to be curled up in the foetal position with the duvet between my legs and I am sure I make for an odd sleeper.
Oh and in recent weeks I seem to have developed an odd habit of walking up at spot on 4:15 every morning to go for a pee regardless of what/when I have drank the night before.

This shows more what I mean by sleeping on my front actually.

I do get neck ache if I accidently fall asleep on my back, and it usually is accidental!
