The World's Best Countries

Surprised we aren't higher in Education..? A few higher anyway

I thought though USA would be.. considering they have the best university in the world well several surely.

The US is being regarded way too favourably. I would not be surprised if the authors were American. I definitely agree that NI is dragging the UK down the ranks.

We're dragging you UP in education.
Down in Health no doubt (BP.dental health.cholesterol.)
Poltically we're very very stable now, last elections only 1 result was different from expected, and that was Peter's wife's fault for having an affair and not paying taxes.

Some things are interesting, Italy stomps all over the UK on Health. Wonder what system they have.

Singapore would be virtually top only they get slammed in one section, politics. Also I don't believe their average education figures, unless it is applied to the entire population, rather than average years of education seen in past x number of years.

Has someone done a terrorist ranking? 'The World's Most Terrifying Terrorists'. PETA = bottom.

PETA are rather tough, have you seen the stats on the numbers of animal murdered in PETA animal shelters in the past few years, spiraling out of control, they care about animals, but don't care 'for' animals.

This is true but not all that many comparatively speaking will get to go to them. There's also large numbers of people who will barely complete high school.

I'm also somewhat surprised that the UK ranks quite so low on the political stability ratings, as far as democracies go it's pretty solid. Ok we've just had a change of government but it didn't threaten the fundamental system that it is based on really.

I like Finland a lot but I'm not sure I'd put it at number 1, education is generally very good there but it can take them a very long time to complete a degree - I know people who've been at university for ~6 years which has a lot to do with the length of time that they will be funded by their Government for. That doesn't necessarily make them better educated, it just means they've spent longer in education.

I think we're low on the political rankings because the FPTP system is considered to be flawed. That's the only reason I can think of...

I've had a quick look at the metrics and methodology they use. From that I'd guess that it's voter participation and personal autonomy/individual rights that are letting us down although I've got some doubts about a few of the countries ahead of us just from the political arena.

I can't view the interactive part of the site. Is there a standard list somewhere that I'm missing?

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be, at least not from my quick look around either. I could do print screens of the listing so you can see all if you're really that interested?

"To be born English is to win first place in the lottery of life"

All things considered we have it pretty good.
