Judder when braking

The wishbone itself has ball joints in it, the garage need to be specific about the fault as the front wishbone rear bush and wishbone ball joints are seperate parts.

An entire wish bone with ball joints + rear bush kit can be had on ebay for around 200, thats left and right hand side.

I see, just looked at some pictures, its clearer now.

Was that kit 200 with OEM bushes?

I'll ask them to clarify in the morning before I take the car down. If the ball joints have not gone, is it worth replacing them 'just in case', are they likely to cause issues? or should I just stick with the bushes, probably Powerflex as they seem to be the way to go if the OEM ones are rubbish.

No, prices aren't from BMW, from a Specialist. It is including correct oil, new plugs, other usual bits etc

Thats a very good read, thanks. Lots of information on there.

It does have useful information, but don't belive for a second it's the be all and end all of brake judder. The internet is full of people suggesting there is no such thing as warped discs, when it certainly can and does happen.

They also did a thorough check on the car and found a puncture (£15 repair) and checked all the bushings for deteriation.
I'd hope they'd check that if they were doing an Inspection II :p
Powerflex do some great bushings that are much more durable than the ones BMW supply and also offer slight improvements to tyre wear and handling.
I had Powerflex bushes fitted to my 330i. I preferred the OEM bushes, though the Powerflex did last longer. In the end (after about 40k) they started making weird creaking noises and were going to need to be changed.
Also no lights on dash showing ABS/DSC activity
Light doesn't come on when ABS is activated.

Hard to believe people can say that. They must have never driven a car that when you brake you think the dashboard is going to fall on your legs. I've MOT'd some cars i'd consider to be undrivable due to the discs being so badly warped. Most recently was an E46 M3, what a bloody scare I got when I drove it from our storage compound to the garage (about 200 meters) only was doing around 30mph when I braked. Discs were almost new so a good skim put them right again.

My old car a focus ST had really bad brake judder due to warped disc's, the warping was compounded even further by the uneven material on the discs (hard spots) it is a fairly common issue with standard disc brakes, drilled and vented discs rarely if ever have a warping issue unless they are cheap and nasty.

The kit is £260 sorry not £200, they are not OEM but Febi Bilstein which are considered an improvement over the original BMW ones.
