Confederate flags in UK trucks? WHY?

Perhaps they like African slaves.

Perhaps they don't like having no say in the election of Government due to the south having fewer votes and being unable to change the outcome of the election from the hands of those in the north. Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election without being on the ballot of the southern states.

Perhaps he likes the Dukes of Hazard and the flag reminds him of it.

Perhaps it doesn't really matter to anyone and the discussion of the topic wastes my time and everyone who reads this post's time.

What about all the moronic middle class Whites who wear clothes with the Imperial Japanese flag on? It seems to be quite fashionable now. These drones have no idea what the flag is and how their ancestors died fighting it.

I apologise for inconveniencing you with my trap thread. I can only imagine your surprise and dismay when you entered a thread entitled 'Confederate flags in UK trucks? Why?' to find, to your infinite horror, a question regarding Confederate flags in UK trucks.

Sorry for wasting your time.

I just find it really strange that they've latched on to a flag from the US Civil War and feel compelled to actually display it in their trucks.

My suspicion is that they don't know or care what it means and it makes them feel like Luke Duke.

As far as Ché, the Japanese flag, and so on... I feel the same. It's weird.

I also find the mauling of Ed Hardy's tattoo work and Von Dutch's name being sullied offensive.

It's symbolic of rebellion, freedom from centralised government, and redneck country culture. Agree that it's not appropriate for this country, but perhaps even less appropriate in the USA.

Why is it not appropriate? :/

It's a cool symbol. Sure, it's been associated at some time with slavery/rebellion/freedom - what have you, does that matter?

However I very much doubt people display it to show any antagonistic reason - they do it because it's a cool flag, and well, dukes of hazards had one, you don't get much cooler than that

I used to love dukes of hazard and wanted the flag myself, and the car!! I also love the south and old cowboy films such as The Good, Bad and the ugly etc, and fascinated by the american civil war. So yes, if I were a trucker I'd have one too. Hell, I may just get one for the car just to annoy people

That's a huge assumption there.

It's like some trucker fashion. Because it's from the US and the truckers there are so cool etc :p Many of them have their own trucks that's painted with eagles and the American flag for example.

Saw it a lot at my old job where I had to deal with truckers every day.

I'd have one so a group of people i have never met would discuss it on a computer hardware forum. It would be my little way of being remembered.

It has highly dubious and sinister connotations. It's associated with the southern states in America, and many extreme far-right conservative Americans use it as a symbol during their protests against equal rights for homosexuals, minorities and certain religious beliefs.
