Topic on Passionford.

Street racing used to go on at "Hams Hall" in Birmingham every week for years. The police did nothing about that....

I can see why someone with a screw loose who was being constantly subjected to it could easily have enough and do something like this.

If it's in a quiet, disused area, I see no issue with a blast up the dual carriageway. We've all done it, and probably worse.

Robbie's just upset his little Golf gets spanked by Diesel Astras :P

If what you are saying is true then I'm really struggling to pin the motives of the person who did it. If it was on a residential stretch, then it is possible to understand someone getting fed up and trying to take matters to there own hands (even though the nails idea is still incredibly stupid). However an infrequently used dual-carriage with some street racing at night can't really be troubling many people can it. It could possibly be other racers who perhaps have a grudge / falling out? etc As it's suspicious enough as it is someone parking up on a dual-carriageway and thumbling about in the road sticking stuff down.

You'd be suprised what gets some people's goat... and how blindly they see their own view as being right and lengths they will take it because they believe they are in the right and don't stop to think about who else will get hurt.

Hmm ok if we're speculating, I'll suggest that it was caused by street racing, because if they'd been obeying the speed limit, a blowout or brake failure probably wouldn't have killed an occupant.

My life is over, im thinking in line with Robbie G of all people. :(

I half agree with him...but not on the fact it was 'street racing' replace that with 'speeding' and I'll accept it as a sensible statement. As it is though, none of us were there, we don't know if the guy was just speeding having a bit of a play with his car, or racing against someone else.

I take it the section this happened on was indeed a 30mph limit? Else I can understand the amount of damage that happened, happening at 60mph.

Actually, no one here knows whether he was speeding at all.....

Indeed. Only the occupants know for sure...other than that it's speculation, even the police investigation won't be 100% accurate...but will give them enough of an idea as to the speed. Internet people don't know and won't know, so the whole speeding and racing thing is pointless debating really.

Accidents/incidents happen and unfortunately this time someone died (as they do in many other incidents). :(

Surely being a dual carriageway that could have been a 70MPH crash?

Could be 70, could be 30. I know loads of dual carrigeways that have 30mph limits.

I only skimmed the thread but I though I saw a pic/someone say it was a 40?

I may very well be wrong.

Haven't been down there in a while (At the Speed limit ;)), but I do believe that it is a 40 limit.

It's relatively close to a residential area (as you'd expect in London), probably close enough to annoy neighbours with the contact sound of driver's doing 5/5ths every night in modified cars.

It is very fair to assume that he was racing. From what I hear it's a very well known spot.

Our local dual carriage way is a well known spot for racing, but I've had 100s of clear runs up there without racing both pootling and balls out.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Robbie. If that was a sensible speed, it wouldn't have been half as bad. Listen to the engine note. Thats not going sensibly is it.

I wonder if they have found a plasterboard screw in any of the tyres?

On the crash video you can hear a tyre pop an instant before the rest of the crash...

There is a skidding noise before the 'pop' though (which carries on until the smash), which doesn't entirely tie in with a blowout causing the problem.
