*Official OMG I got my 460 thread*

Going to grab a Gigabyte GTX 460 tomorrow. I've just downloaded the card drivers from the Gigabyte website and they're 258.56. Is it best to always download the drivers from the NVidia website instead?

258.96 WHQL are on Nvidia's site, I'd recommend you get from there.

Got my Gigabyte GTX460 1Gb OC this morning. To be honest, I was very disappointed with it’s performance. I’ve upgraded from a 8800GTS 640Mb OC2. I’ve only run the “X3 - Terran Conflict” benchmark so far and I wasn’t impressed. I’ve gone from an average frame rate of 57.5fps to 62.5fps.

The only good point about the GTX460 is that it’s almost silent. Much quieter than my old 8800GTS and a lot shorter.

you can probably tur the AA and AF settings up in the nvidia settings and get much better gfx and maintain a higher average frame rate.

also keep vsync enabled if your on a tft and force it in the drivers and then select triple buffering..

should be better than the 8800gts then even if the average fps isnt higher, it will look much nicer!

I actually prefer Nvidia Inspector to MSI afterburner, but then I don't want to set a custom fan profile. I like the simple GUI of Nvidia Inspector.

Strange it does that...

Mine's at 850/1700/4200 @ 1.087V from the second it hits windows and it's never had a problem.

I have switched to using Nvidia Inspector and seem to have not had that issue so far.

Update: well seems stable at 880/1760/4240 @ 1.087V running at about 67C (fan hits 77% speed) without any apparent artifacting at least in Mafia II demo, Just Cause 2 benchmarks and in FurMark but I'll be running a more lengthy stability test this weekend to make sure

What brand do you have?

Because that is some mean result right there!

Other people have been getting the MSI up to 940 Mhz on stock cooling with 1.087v (lucky gits :().

I reckon that almost every MSI Cyclone, Gigabyte OC, and Asus Diruct CU will reach the 850 mhz point, then above that its purely down to luck. Overall I've been seeing better results on the MSI than on the other two.

And theres no need to risk my warranty this time with having to bios flash or use an after market cooler. Those three brands support overclocking and already come with great coolers. Gigabyte dont provide their own overclocking software, but afterburner should work, and I found out on their forums that they will still service any card that is returned to them in the same condition it was bought, even if you overclock or change the cooler yourself and then put the original back on (which is what I asked), but there wouldnt be any need at all for that with the awesome cooler they have on their GTX 460.

In the past I've mostly bought Powercolor / Club 3D / Sapphire cards, always going for the cheapest model available, which all make good cards, but they dont support overclocking at all (even on the toxic / vapor x type cards, overclocking = voided warranty), so now Im only going to stick to buying MSI / Asus / Gigabyte brands.

I dont even need to change the thermal paste on these MSI cards, the temperatures are brilliant for a dual card setup (my 5770s would get even hotter with ease).

I think Ravenger was hoping to upgrade to a modular one though...

That's right. I didn't want to have to buy a new PSU, but I've decided to splash some cash to get a good one.

So I've gone for a Corsair 750W HX Modular PSU. A bit more than I originally wanted to pay (Approx £110), but it's had excellent reviews and should last me through the next few PC builds, and if I ever want to go SLI in a future PC, or get a monster card then it should be powerful enough.

I noticed today I was getting some glitches while playing L4D. What's strange is that the GPU wasn't stressed at all (~50% utilisation even with everything turned on), so I hope it's not a sign that my 460 is actually a bit knackered. Even stranger is that running Crysis afterwards as a test showed no artifacts at 95% utilisation, and neither did Kombustor.

Mine doesn't run that cool! About 33C now, but I do have an 8800GT installed which pushes the idle temp up a tad.
Hey, I currently have a 8800GT and I'm thinking about buying the Gigabyte 460 (for the upgrade and sound reduction on load). I have a SLI compliant mobo, is that how you have the two cards set-up? I have no experience with it, or why you would have this set-up but it would be great if you could explain to the poor uninformed!

The second card would most likely be for deadicated Nvida physics, not sli mate :)
