Not always. For example, I flew to Cape Town on business class and paid £1600. The cattle class ticket was just under £800. So it was twice the price. I do book through work where I get a special discount but it's not much. For long haul flights it's worth to pony up the extra £££ for comfort. I've been upgraded to BA 1st class once to Las Vegas and it's not THAT much better than business class. The price is horrendous though. Miles above what I can afford.
I disagree, I'd much rather spend the money once I got to my destination.
Then again, I get into the Platinum Elite lounge in Amsterdam for free and usually fly KLM so most flights pass through there. I get the comfort of that, and the perks but have to endure the cattle class. They still give out free booze happily so it's all fine to me.
Same with hotels, when I've travelled (be it alone, with friends or with family) we've skimped a bit on hotels to have more spending money when we were there. Why spent hundreds in a place you only need to put your head down in. When on holiday, I'm awake in a hotel for about 30 minutes a day. Don't see the point spending a fortune.
Then again, I actually enjoy being in airports and the whole 'travelling experience'. I don't see travelling as a means to a destination, I see it as an adventure and something to enjoy.
