The Official "Unofficial" OcUK Forum, Annual LAN Party

Just read through most of this thread and this LAN Party has potential. Be sure to get pictures and videos up of it. :)

Finding one LAN location is hard enough. Finding several so you can go on a LAN tour around the country would be nigh impossible.

Just make it great. It you build it, we will come. (I'm over a hundred miles from my regular LAN, but it's well worth the trip).

I appologise for the lack of updates although there has not been much activity owing to personal reasons and a borked PC.

My employer is going through a major restructure at present and a dead PSU and system not posting due to RAM issues have not helped either.

All in all, good times :)

Hope to get the wheels moving again proper next week.

My Work has been taking up a lot of my time but as that pays the mortgage and feeds my kids, I dont have much choice :)

This thing is still going ahead, it is just work had temporarily been halted :)

Will update soon.

Please don't hate me.

I'd be up for this.
I can supply homebrew!
Obviously, me being in Glasgow I wouldn't want to go that far South but Manchester way would be OK.
Could possibly cart some other jocks down too. We expect our own section where we can drink our Super, let our haggis roam free before the slaughter, shoot up our skag and have a good fight afterwards.

so any rough guesses on date?

Not at the moment. Owing to personal issues, I have not been able to contribute as much time to the project over the last few weeks as I would have liked. Unfortunate, but unavoidable.

The event is still going to go ahead, I am just unable to give any dates at the moment, approximate or otherwise.

I appreciate it is not ideal and am sure many will find it frustrating but I assure you, it is even more frustrating for myself as I wanted to get this thing up and running as soon as possible.

Obviously, I will keep the forum updated.

Keep the faith.

Realistically, 2011 although still could be 2010. Confused? Let me explain.

If we said we would be good to go in 2½ months, many could say it is too close to Christmas. Also, venue higher becomes a little more tricky. Leave it till the new year and people will say they have no money :(

Although having more time to plan is never a bad thing it all depends on what people would prefer.

I know people would have prefered it to happen a lot sooner, so would I, but that isnt going to happen so need to focus on what we can do, not what we cant do.

Sure, I accept repsonsibility for the delay for which I appologise to the forum but sometimes things happen and you just have to roll with it.

To be honest Gimpy, even without you having other things unfortunately taking up your time I personally reckon a LAN before 2011 was a bit of an unrealistic prospect. It may well have happened but it would've taken a lot of good luck - finding a perfect venue extremely quickly and not having any issues organisationally or logistically...

I'm mostly pointing this out to hopefully make you feel a little responsible for the event happening in 2011. It was a 95% likelihood anyhow and there's actually an advantage in not having an unrealistic goal; less pressure on you/us to organise things super-quickly and more time to make sure the event is as good as it can possibly be.

Makes me feel less of a failure so thanks :)

Just don't want to let the forum down in any way.

Trust me, sometimes you do all the right things, and it bites you when you least expect it.

Good luck getting it sorted and if anyone can help you im sure all you need to do is ask.

Gimpy, if you were to turn around tomorrow and say "I'm not doing it," The only thing we will think is that organising a LAN Party is a thankless and a nigh-on impossible task. No-one will think any less of you.

I'm looking at this as a huge favour you are doing us, not a responsibility you have to us.

But I really hope you are successful. :)

Thank you for the kind words.

Nice to know people are not banding together with torches and pitchforks just yet :)

I have to be honest though and say I did underestimate how much work would be involved, despite Frenchtart telling me otherwise on multiple occassions, HOWEVER you live and learn and it would only be a negative if I did not learn anything.

So, onwards and upwards and looking forward to seeing you at Spiefest :)
