A Level results on Thursday

CDD at A Level, had to go through clearing to scrape into my last choice university. Got a cracking job now on great money; its not how you start its how you finish that counts.

A* = A of old?

edit:

I should add, I do not mean to devalue anyone's results. I for example did A-levels in 2006, a year with a high percentage of As. But I did feel sorry for universities before this A* grade existed. very tough job to differentiate.

Guys, remember that not getting into your first choice is not the end of the world by ANY means.

You will have a blast wherever you go (unless you didn't care too much about what your second choice was), and you will walk away with a degree that'll put you on some good graduate scheme at the end.

If you're determined you'll reach your goals in the end, even if you take the scenic route.

Good luck

To add, do not go to your second choice thinking about how amazing the first could have been. That is what will ruin uni for you. I've just finished my first year and I've had mates who hated the uni I love because of who they had to live with, things happening at home, etc. Just because the first was better doesn't mean you would have liked it more. You could have been dumped with a load of weirdos who never go out. :D

Have a good time at uni guys!

However, also try and avoid post rationalisation. Just move on. Comments like "I wouldn't have like x anyway" are unnecessary.

Try not to worry too much, it will work out in the end :).

5 years ago when I got my a-level results (is it really that long ago?) I didn't get into my first 2 choices (Oxford and Imperial), mainly due to some shoddy marking of my physics paper, but I rang up Bath (my unofficial 3rd choice) and got in.

Ended up having the time of my life and made some great friends. Even if I could go back in time don't think I'd change it :).

Some clouds really do have a silver lining.

Managed to get a place at the University of London (Goldsmiths College) to study Computer Science which brightened up my day! Only downside is that I cannot live in halls for the first term, oh well. :D

A*ABCC overall. Not going to Uni this year as I needed an A in maths which I somehow managed to miss. Gutted.

Good Luck everybody...I remember how nerve racking this day is...did not get the grades i needed spent the whole day panicing waiting for UCAS...but everything turned out good in the end got into my first pick and had the time of my life. Just remember just because you did not meet the minimum standard does not mean you did not get in!

It's a shame your school was making you do 5 A-levels, just unnecessary.

I bet if you stuck to 3, you'd have done better than A*AB.

I'd finished one at the end of last year, and Further Maths was done entirely in 1 year, hence the low grade.

Oh well. Retake a couple next year and apply for something more appropriate. Pure maths doesn't sound so attractive, all of a sudden. Just hopefully won't be biased against for retaking some modules in a 3rd year...

Oh ok. Further Maths I can understand being a 4th.

If you didn't get an A/A* in even the normal Maths A-level, I would strongly suggest looking at whether you really want to do Maths at university. Talking to Maths graduates will be enlightening.

Could look at engineering or something.

For any of those who are down heartened, four years ago I messed up my A levels big time playing WOW and got BDE(E) (Media,German,Psychology,History)

I just graduated narrowly missing a first! Not trying to boast here, just trying to look on the bright side of things :)

To be honest I found A levels harder than my first year of Uni. Third year of Uni was a completely different ball game though.

Sounds sad but since I've finished uni I miss assignments, I enjoy being challenged on an intellectual level and being rewarded with a good grade!

Exactly, I'm now strongly considering moving to economics or the like. I will still likely need to push my Maths up to an A grade though, but I'm confident I can do that. I just hope that decent unis won't look down on me because I had to take another year :(

Feel like such a fool.

Tempted to do priority remarks of two papers, but £100 for a hope of 5ums. Who knows if it'll make it?

I did rubbish in A levels, went through clearing at ended up doing a different course at the same uni as my first choice.

Best thing that could have happened as I enjoyed the course far much more than the one I was going to do. I'd just never really thought about the course before hand, always had it in my head I wanted to do Comp Sci but so glad I didn't. Having a lot of friends on the course I know it wouldn't have been 'me' and was much better off with engineering.

Well okay, my AS results currently stand at BCC. I somehow have to turn that into AAB by the end of next year. Anybody managed to achieve such a feat yet? :p
