A Level results on Thursday

I am not going to uni, that's why I'm a misery! I need to retake exams and stuff and then hope that unis can tolerate the fact that I've taken another year!

Be very sure about retaking before you do so. With your grades I'd be suprised if you need to? Even if you retake and score straight A's some unis won't look at you anyway having done retakes. Most people I know who retook barely did any better than first time around - it's hard work covering the same old material again.
The universities may even look upon a years worth of work experience as being more important than an A in maths if you apply again for next year.

Surely there must be a decent course somewhere that will take you through clearing?

Being on a specific course at a specific uni seems like the most important thing in the world at the time ... but by the time you graduate there are plenty of other things that are higher on an employers list of priorities.

As unsure as you sound I'd highly recommend getting a job for a year before reapplying - it may just help give you the perspective you need to decide on what you really want to do. I wish I did that before i went to uni!

Edit: No matter what you decide though don't be down about it ... those are decent grades - they won't matter by the time you graduate ... stay positive and I guarantee you'll have a strong future ahead of you :)

Many thanks all, it's good to know that I've still got a chance of something working out, even if it doesn't feel that way at the mo, aha.

Why are you beating yourself up about your grades? They are absolutely excellent. Get a place at a different university through the clearing process and forget about them. Bleating on about being a failure with that level of results is a tad pathetic, as you have infact done very well indeed.

They said they have no idea how long it will take lol.
That's why i'm asking here, if anybody has sent it off for priority.

hmm, i'm also wondering about this. Got b in business, (b,a,a,d), im not crying about it :P and i got into my first choice, but i would deffo consider having the d remarked (it was 50% and i only needed 66% to get an a!, i also thought i absolutely aced the exam).... whats the ins and outs of it?- (my offer for bath wouldnt be suspended or anything pending the remark would it?)...

No point in getting it remarked if you've got into your first choice, just a waste of money really.

For me it's different.. got a B in business studies as well... ONE mark away from an A which meant instead of going to 1st choice i'm going to 2nd choice :/

I've already phoned up the uni but they have no place now.
Is it possible they'll have space later on if people drop out? So i should phone up every few days to see if they have space??

Well okay, my AS results currently stand at BCC. I somehow have to turn that into AAB by the end of next year. Anybody managed to achieve such a feat yet? :p

A few years ago I got CDE up to BBC, the E to a B aswell. Was a good chunk of work though, requires a significant amount of effort (and in my case it required me turning up to school less... which says something about my 6th form :o).

You've only got 4 grades to go up, I managed 3 in one module so its far from impossible :)

Well I got:

Maths: A
Further Maths: A
Chemistry: B
Physics: B
General Studies: A

Congrats to everybody getting great results.

but that was 23 years ago ;)

If your going to Uni to do Computer Science, please reconsider. You'll only get a decent career based job if yo come out with a 1st, anything less and youl be a tech support monkey for years.... yes I am a bitter old man

Can I just add a big thanks to all of you that want access to their scripts (exam paper that has been written on). Thanks to you my job is busy as **** for the next two months, especially for English!!!! :P

Oh and congratulations to you all as well :)

A and a B, though they were media and photography :o
Still pretty happy though

Everyone was worrying about uni and clearance, and there I was chilled out simply because i'm not going uni :p

Best of luck with everyone with uni's and all :)

It depends if you get a Computer Science degree from a good institution, but mostly it depends on the person.

To say you're limited to 'tech' related stuff is ridiculous... for example, almost any research, development, business and banking graduate training programme would have taken me on with a CS degree from my Uni. Recruiters love socially-apt (there aren't too many) Computer Science graduates - you normally have to work incredibly hard for your degree and it spans SO many disciplines; hardcore maths, science, engineering, creativity, even psychology depending on what you pick.

Obviously, this is not the case if you get your Computer Science degree from Sheffield Crapham or Westminster. It boggles my mind how they manage to get accreditation
