Ebay sale seems shady

Interesting read this thread and like many shady ebay threads this is turning into a good lesson of ebay dos and donts, but we have all been there I guess. So my thoughts;

I never sell high priced items to buyers with less than 10 feedback it is your right to remove there bid before auction end. Its not hard to rank up 10 feedback.

Always try and post as soon as possible buyers often get really annoying if its taking more than a few days to appear.

Paypal- I hope u checked your account before sending and not just based it on the email.

if you message an ebayer keep it short and sweet I normally go as far as letting them know its dispatched and when, its size and type of recorded delivery.

People seem to be getting on your **** about not trusting someone with zero feedback but really in the world of ebay scams u shouldn't even be letting them bid on high value electrical items.

to say that "in the buyers defence we all had 0 feedback once" is daft imo as of course we all had 0 feedback at some points but we all don't buy expensive xbox's as our first purchase, however scammers do. in this case it may be legit but still smells a bit fishy and what has shocked me is that so few can smell it.

OP is right to be cautious. i've sent out a gameboy + games to even a buyer with a unconfirmed address before, turns out to be a stolen credit card and paypal didn't protect me because it's an unconfirmed address.

Nowadays i wont ship any expensive items to unconfirmed addresses, expensive lesson learnt! never again!! good faith leaves you dry.

Yeah well, I hope it all ends well.
"Good faith leaves you dry" lol Never heard that one before. lol My missus always say's I am $&@* with money. :)
I have heard the tiniest ammount of faith can move mountains though.
All the best with the sale.

I sold a XBox 360 when they first came out on ebay for £500 cost me £300 to buy and some bidder won it with zero feedback, turned out fine, he came and picked it up and paid with bankers draft, this was 5 years ago.

ebay is not all doom and gloom but paypal is not worth it.

just been selling a bunch of stuff.... ebay IS full of morons.

1) asked if could pay by postal order before auction ended. replied stating paypal or COC ONLY, as per description. What does he do? bids, wins, and then asks where to send postal order to. Reply back saying pp only, then STILL doesnt get it. In the process of cancelling it.

2) non-paying bidders. wtf, why bid, win and then do a runner? becomes a real pita to sort out.

Why did he buy it for £240? Actually why are you selling it for that much? Well I guess just to make a quick profit....they are only £170 new.... buyer is an idiot!

Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable

Wireless Controller - £27
Play Charge Kit - £13
HDMI AV Cable - £18
HD Transfer Cable - £15
Console - £171

Total - £244

This was with a quick google first result I saw. Even though its new and unopened its still 2nd hand. Rather then buy everything brand new with a receipt from reputable online stores, you would save £4 and buy off a randomer on eBay? If you would, then you're the idiot! :D

We all had 0 feedback once. Just make sure you have proof that it was sealed and send it by recorded/signed for delivery.

Exactly.

I have also asked for his home phone number and will give him a ring

You don't need to ask for this specifically, it is listed on ebay when they register iirc. I once had someone randomly ring me and I didn't list my phone number anywhere that I thought was visable.

They have 0 feedback, just registered. It could be for a reason.

Also, if you have problems with 0 feedback bidders then why did you allow 0 rated seller bid in the first place? When you go through the EASY process of listing an auction it clearly displays various options that are available to you to set before placing the listing.

Wish mods would ban ebay threads.

One thing I'll add, any delay in posting an item will go in the buyers favour. Paypal disputes all work from the day of payment so if an item isn't posted for a week then the buyer is already a week along to opening a dispute. It's a tough one.

Yes it is if people keep removing your bids...

The first thing I bought on ebay was £386.

The wireless controller with play and charge kit (whatever that is) cost more like £40, its 49.99 at highstreet stores.

He has sent a reply saying - cheers, thanks for the quick reply. Nothing more

Why? They can sometimes be interesting, and a lot better than some of the drivel posted on GD!

eBay threads tend to be drivel because 100% of the time it could have been avoided by doing things properly in the first place.

Perhaps I'm in the minority that sigh at the sight of ebay threads every week being the result of apart of the OP not doing things right in the first place.

No wait, I'm not the only one :)

Don't read eBay threads then?

We can just easily comment on some of the other terrible threads on here, such as where people just post a link from BBC news about a "Man Who Was Found With Squirrel Up His Bum" with no further comment other than the link.

Son wants Xbox for birthday, Dad spots great deal, fully sealed brand new console on Ebay, Dad signs up to purchase, not wanting a receipt as his son will automatically assume it was bought from a shop.

Don't see any issues :)

And now, original bidder pays, and asks why it hasnt been sent yet and they need it TOMORROW.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother.....
