OcUK MTB (I want to punch you all in the face) MEET GLENTRESS September 4th-5th

Put me down as a maybe - I need a bike rack for my car first which I *should* be able to afford when I get paid on Friday. I like the idea of the static caravan but if we ended up camping I've got a tent or two people could borrow if they didn't have one!

Some details would be great weescott. :)

I'm in 2 minds about this now, having had the bike stolen a couple of weeks back. I've not ridden Glentress and its' been on my list to do for some time now, would be great to ride it with a bunch of fellow OcUK'ers :p

Problem is the night time. I'm going to be FAR too paranoid to leave my bike anywhere other than in the same structure that I'm sleeping in. Can't see the insurance paying out again in such a short time! (I know, the probability is that it wont get stolen again, but paranoia would stop me from sleeping)

Might have to look up B&B in the area, see if I can find one with space inside for bikes.

What do you people normally do when you camp with bikes? Lock it to a tree and tie a string round your neck to wake you up if it gets pulled away? :p

Planning on going to the lakes next year and biking+camping around and had no idea what would be done?

For anyone that will be camping myself and few others will be staying at Rosetta Caravan Park located in peebles only a few minutes cycle from the trails. For the weekend of the trip it will be £16 a night for a 2-4 man tent.

Within the above quote is the campsite we are going to be staying at.

Lock it to a tree and tie a string round your neck to wake you up if it gets pulled away? :p Also before now I have padlock two bikes together and left them inside my tent in one of the sleeping compartments while I went out for the day, if its not obvious they are there no one will go looking and I have found most campsites I have been to be fairly vigilant on who is entering and exiting the site.

Planning on going to the lakes next year and biking+camping around and had no idea what would be done?

In answer to both your questions I usually either leave the bike locked in the car over night or if I am using a rack bring a set of chains and locks to secure both to the car.

This summer I even left two bikes in one of the sleeping compartments of the tent while I went out for the day :p If its not obvious they are there no one will go looking.

Was more thinking of details of how much it'll cost per person - not clear on their website.

Also guessing that they wouldnt allow (or appreciate) bikes inside the caravan, hence my paranoia on where to leave it. Might look into making a day trip on Saturday, even though it'll mean a lot of driving in 1 day.

Bike thieves are in general opportunists they are not going to want to have to break into a car before getting out a bike its very likely to alert someone to what they are doing ;)

We are going to be looking into prices this week and will post with an answer shortly.

Are you planning anything in particular for Sunday? Repeat of the Saturday ride, maybe picking out the best bits?

Or is the likelihood of being too hungover rather strong? ;)

Glentress Saturday. Red and black. We could do a night ride as well but TBH I'll probably want beer by sunset.

Innerleithen Sunday for the red (with Black sections). It doesn't take long so it's fine to do for those who have a long drive south afterwards. And/or the DH run for those who fancy it.

The DH run(s) at Inner are pretty awesome; defo recommend them for anyone not sure whether to do them or not. Take your brave pills and stay off the brakes :D

For the non-tent type like myself there's a b&b in peebles which i normally stay at called the 'Cross Keys'. Not a 5* but good enough and cheap as £35 for single room per night or £60 for a twin and thats inc breakfast.

Was up earlier in year and did Inners Red, Glentress Red and a day DH at inners.. as trail riders best runs at Inners are probably the cresta/gold run.

Nope, i explained to ichabod yesterday that it's still in cricket season so i'm busy over the weekend. Hoping to get up again before the years over though.

Edit: and it's just pull.. no need to faff around with numbers :)

Got any Youtube links, or descriptions of the runs?

Should have my Pitch, which if I'm feeling brave can handle some DH stuff, flat pedals and 150mm travelish helps a bit.

As does having no brains and some armour.... :p

Awesome vid - been scaring people at work with it!

RESULT!!!!!!!!! I have a Pitch once again :D :D :D

Booked Fri and Sat night at Cross Keys in Peebles, so I'll be up for riding Saturday and Sunday.

Let fisticuffs commence.... :p

Glad the insurance paid up :)

I'm off to the Toyota garage tonight to double check what roof rack & bike rack I need for the Aygo, not buying it from them mind you - they want nearly £270 for both bits! If I can get a hold of everything for under £200 I'll be heading to Glentress too :)

Me too - They'd tried to give me a Kona Stinky 6 from Halfrauds, I was having none of it :p

I can offer a lift up on Friday night if thats any help to ya?

I'd offer the same for Hedge but he's gone all Scootish McSporran.
