Your biggest ever let down game... EVER!

Spore.

They could have done so much - they even promised it at the outset - but bit by bit they ruined it until release.

Far Cry 2, repetitive and frustrating after only a short time.

The new AvP, stoopid AI, mega short, broken mp and a crap sounding smartgun.

Far Cry 2 - have I been here before... yep about 50 times and the same baddies... yep at the same place.

Arma 2 Demo - what a mess, the worst ever launch of a demo EVER! Pure frustration driving many to never even bother again.

Operation Flashpoint 2 Demo - Game for campers. There's nothing like shooting at little dots on the horizon!

Riddick (all of them) - the graphics engine and character controls and shooting mechanics were ridiculous. Every time I played Dark Athena I kept thinking... "this came out after Crysis. JEEEEZ!!!"

Half-Life: Blue Shift - how many corridors?

Mass Effect - shooting mechanics were UTTERLY awful and I tried to stick with it for the story alone but I was forcing myself. Rubbish. I mean is there any way a true FPS player could ever last over 3 hours playing with tripe controls like that? Lets talk to this guy... run.. repeat infinatum.

Did you actually play it online? Most people who say they hated L4D didn't give it much of a chance online. Single player it's dull as anything.

Such a good point. I only played it single player on a friends PC and thought it was rubbish... then online it changes the entire game dynamics.

Warhammer Online for me, was so disappointed after waiting so long for it. Pinning all my hopes on Star Wars TOR now, really hope it doesn't fail.

1: Warhammer Online. I still sub, and play occasionally but it could have been so much more.

This and perhaps add AVP3 in there also. It was fun at first until the novelty wore off. Thankfully I got a lot of fun out of the single player.

Hearts of Iron 3 and expansion. Personally, I feel conned by such a shoddy release. Even by PI's woeful standards they are terrible. I'm waiting for Victoria 2 to be patched and for sale at a bargain price on Steam. They ain't getting full whack out of me again.:p

Spore - We all fell for the hype. What a pile of pants.

OFP Dragon Rising - Played for 15mins, and then shelved... or binned.

Empire Total War - Won't buy Napoleon or Shogun 2 after that. I'll wait for Rome 2... even though I was somewhat disappointed by the original.

The Sims 3 - So much wrong with it. It was almost as if the designers had never played the previous 2 versions. I must confess that with the Nightlife expansion in the works, I'm actually getting ready to give it another go... :o

Oh, and Frontier: First Encounters. Unbelievable.

Can't understand the Borderlands hate. Don't agree with any of the points posted but hey, each to their own. On the point of mouse control it's the only FPS I've played which I prefer playing with a pad. It's much better for it.

The randomly generated items was complete bull. It's not random at all.

The combat system is sub-par, hit detection is awful and being a console port the PC version suffers hugely when it comes to using/equipping items and general bugs/usage. The GameSpy REQUIREMENT was also a huge fat mistake.

It should have been a great drop in and play game but it's not simple enough for that but the complexities of the game are not all that welcome either. The different damage types could have been an interesting thing but they are also a hindrance.

Some damage types are completely useless versus some enemies and WAY too overpowered versus others.

On another note the stats of weapons are so stupidly bull it makes it impossible to make informed choices. Bullet counts, accuracy ratings, scoped accuracy ratings, damage type etc etc.

Spec a certain talent tree and you are locked into a certain field of weaponry and play-style. This works for a proper full on character progression game but Borderlands is not that platform. It should have been a FPS iteration of Diablo and it's a FAR cry from that.

Hacked characters and item duplication destroy any real on-line play outside of friends and you end up with a game which lacks re-playability with more annoyances than simple good gaming should have.

It was over-hyped, not shipped as advertised and too buggy for PC release.

Neverwinter Nights 1& 2 - expected loads got a major disappointment. Sure the graphics were alright but the stories were dull.

Fallout 3 - soulless and boring. Had nothing on its predecessors (even FO: Tactics was more fun)

Oblivion - same as above.

1.Deus Ex 2 Needs no explanation.
2.Fable (and B.C while I'm at it, lionhead never realeased it after seeing the panning fable got. looked good, but was probably just hype like fable was )
3.KOTOR 2 not a patch on the previous one, taken out of that context however it wasn't that bad.
4.Oblivion Same as above

*edit* Oh and fallout 3 For the exact reasons as Cat In Pyjamas stated above me!

This is about games being a massive letdown and I accept that as an RTCW player you probably felt like ET should take you to the promised land, but a free game being a huge letdown? Really?

They gave it away because they couldn't get it right mate...

I dont mind paying for games, RTCW was superb, ... I remember the communities buzzing about RTCW 2... but it was the biggest let down for many RTCW hardcore players.. some of which are use these forums.. shout out to the Pigfarmer

Its personally my biggest let down!

Thats why I believe Football games like the FIFA series are so successful. They take a very good platform and just build upon it. Rather than taking elements of the game out and implementing changes that make the game seem different, they listen to the community and make improvements..

If more Software developers listened to the communities upon which they rely to make a succeful game, they may actually learn that what gaming communities generally want are incremental improvements.. and when a new engine is developed that could improve the game graphically, they continue where they left off. Making changes that keep the feel and the familiarity of the original as much as possible but continuing with improvements... if that makes sense. Just my personal gripe!! :)

Farcry 2 - So disappointed in this when it had the potential to be better than Crysis.
Which leads to Crysis - Became bored after 2 hours of the same format of sneak shoot, sneak shoot.

Broken Sword 3

Loved the first 2 but the third and 4th were utter crap. Unless i have just grown out of this type of game.
