Would you like all your games on Steam?

I was under the impression that if a cheat was detected in say, counterstrike source, your steam account would be banned and along with that all of your games would be taken away from you? Please do correct me if i'm wrong.

You are wrong.

If you're caught cheating CS:S, you'll be banned from playing any source games online. SO HL2:DM for example, TF2 etc.

You could still play MW2 online, or HL2 offline, or any other offline game.

Basically, you get banned from the online component of a game engine. Cheat in Source, get banned from online Source.

They don't just ban your entire account.

Yet the terms and conditions say that I can be banned if I use world builder in Civ to give myself an extra warrior.

I really cannot sign to that T+C requirement.

You won't get banned for using a trainer on a SP game, they don't care, it won't happen, you're being massively paranoid.

That's slightly more reasonable but still overkill imo. If i were to be banned for questionable applications on my computer in counter strike why on earth should i have to pay for a new copy of TF2?

Just doesn't seem right to me, but then it's all a matter of opinion.

Care to post where it says this please?

I cheat in every single-player game that I own.

What exactly is the point in cheating in single-player games? Just makes the game dull...

You can still play the games, nothing gets "Removed" from your account, you just lose the ability to connect to "VAC" servers which means your playing with all the other hackers... of course, they dont like that.

Not sure how that works in MW2 though, does that ban the multiplayer component?

Either way, dont use hax :)

I am not 100% certain a CS:S VAC ban would also initiate a TF2 VAC ban.

Yes I'd rather have all my games of Steam and tend to buy the majority of them in the sales, however if it is cheaper to buy a retail copy then I will, otherwise Steam standard prices a a little high, but doesn't really bother me though.

Neither will I. I much prefer ordering them online and having the boxed copy posted through my mail box :)

What a witty little comment, buying online would be considered an Online Shop would it not?

It's only overkill if you plan on cheating tbh, otherwise I don't really see that it presents any issue at all.

Never cheated in an online game in my life and never plan to. However in my previous living conditions (student house with 11 other people) i pretty much gave everyone who wanted it free access to game on my PC when i wasn't. If they did something dumb that got my VAC account blacklisted again i would feel it a little harsh that i'd need to create a new spare steam account to rebuy all of those VAC games for.

But then, if steam was my main gaming platform i probably would have been more careful with who i let use my computer without supervision...

Well that does happen to people. I never cheat in online games and have never lost any accounts or been hacked, but I am not going to take the risk of having it happen on one single account with all of the games I own.

Its ridiculous to want all your games on Steam. Really ridiculous.

I rather buy a game in retail, register the CD-Key on Steam, install the game and put the physical CD media away. Shame only a few games work like this:(

As i often have issues with steam randomly signing me out/not being able to sign in for ages until it finally decides to work , i would have to say a big NOOOOOO

Actually theres plenty of cases on the internet to look into if you wanted to with a simple google search.

Please show me a way to filter those into ones that were *genuinly* forced without the user being in any way responsible.

Unfortunately VAC bans per game engine so if you get banned in MW2 you won't get banned in TF2, with source i'm not so sure though. And seriously if someone did something stupid to get your account VAC banned how is that *any* fault of steams?

Please take off your tinfoil hat. Valve have absolutely no way of policing what you do in a single player game and as such, no way of banning you even if such a thing was possible.

Why is it ridiculous to want all your games on Steam? Just because I'm sensible, and don't use hacks, or let other people use my PC to download or game on, doesn't make it ridiculous that I want my games in an easy to use system, that automatically updates and manages my games. I can contact my friend, check achievements etc.

Really, why on earth do you find that ridiculous.

Surely there's a much chance of losing your games in a burglary, depending on where you live, as there is in getting your account hacked or banned?

Theres also a higher chance of getting those games back through either having them found or insurance.

I dont do any of those things, but It would be ridiculous to me to have every game I own on Steam. Because you can lose them all through one account being hacked or banned. It is a huge security risk.
