Reccomend a graphics card

Easy. Multiply £80 by 2 and wala! £160 :D

On the serious note, the OP clearly stated 'must be less than £80', so people would think any (much) higher price is not an option, however now that the OP has clarify £80 is not the absolute budget, then that open to lots more options.

Between £140 and £180, the GTX460 768MB and the GTX460 1GB is what you should consider. Unless you got some personal preference of ATI over Nvidia, I wouldn't recommend the 5830 over the GTX460 768MB considering that both are similiarly priced, but the GTX460 768MB is faster in most cases:

At £200 there's the 5850, then at £220 there's GTX470. Both are decent cards, but the GTX470 is faster...at the cost of higher power consumption, higher temp and nosier:

ok I barely understood some of that but which 460 should I get

It translates because it's best bang-for-buck. As opposed to an 80 quid ****ty card.

erm...please read the part that said 'GFX must be under £80' or don't you think we'd have recommended a GTX 460, whats the point in saying one thing then completely disregarding it...

Sorry about that but I guess my mind changed abit.

The OP has clarified that £80 is not the absolute budget, but I think you might have missed it (#47) with so many replies:
Ok It wasn't a tight budgget I forgot to mention that. Sorry!
Are 5830's any good?

anuraj you HAVE TO make up your mind on the max amount you would pay for getting a card, or people can't really help you or advise you accordingly.

well they are slower than HD 4870 so not really great the best option if your budget isn't really a concern. best bet is probably either GTX 460 1Gb or HD 5850, but upto you in the end.

Ok so from reading these to posts gts 250 is like a last gen gpu. Which one would you guys go for 460 or 5850.

may i add that current technology isn't always the best, look at this for an example:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Prod...7.118.119.120.128.125.121.126.123.122.124.127

the 'old' GTX 295 wins at everything, including power consumption, temperature, etc. but it all depends what you want from your card, if its sheer muscle then the GTX 295 is substancially faster than the GTX 460, if its features (DX11, etc.) then the GTX 460 is the way to go. :)

as for which out of HD 5850 and GTX 460, look at the Anandtech benchmarks, do comparison between 5850 and 460. as far as i can see the 5850 wins hands down, correct me if im wrong.

Wouldn't get an old tech Vram limited 295 with it's multi GPU related issues if I were you, would much rather get a fast single chip like the 460, and then sell and upgrade when you need more grunt.

what is 1,800mb (900 for each GPU) of memory too little? how on earth is that gonna hinder the card compared to GTX 460, have yet to see a single benchmark that puts 460 anywhere even near the 295 in terms of raw power. and as for multi-GPU related issues, really not as common as people seem to think, never had any personally (except with weirdly bad 10.7 drivers) which seemed to totally break crossfire.

You only get 900mb effective Vram, which will increasingly begin to strangle the card as newer games come out. The extra 100mb does make a difference.
