Reccomend a graphics card

don't think so, they have about 1/3 the stream processors of the 8800GTS, which gets destroyed in the current GFX climate. which games in particular you wanting to play and at what resolution (very important factor)?

Well I want to play some of the future games to be released like call of duty black ops. I also want to try out need for speed world but my laptop doesn't support it.

Well, £80 budget pretty much already limited your choices. Either stretch around £5-£7 to get a 5750 512MB, or a 2nd hand 4870 1GB at £65-£70.

This, or a used 5770/4890 if you can find one within your budget.

From Nvidia camp... GTX 260 (used), new costs roughly £100. GTS 250 is the same card as GTX 9800+ and can be had within your budget although it only performs well in a few tasks, in others it will be slower than 4870 and equivalent to 5750.

These are your choices really.

New cards:

HD 5750 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-155-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=708

GTX 260 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-114-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1341

HD 4890 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-124-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=938

What do you think about the hd 4670?

I think no. What's the rest of the system you're planning to get?

My friend has a hd 5670 and it plays all his games including:
Dirt 2, CoD WaW, tf2, hl2 and both episodes, crysis etc...
Maybe not on max settings but his fps dont normally dip below 30 on any games.

It doesn't mean it's a good graphics for gamers. Certainly not future proof by any means. With graphics cards the rule is to always get the best you can afford. They usually age a slower less than low-end.

4gb ddr2 800mhz ram

amd athlon X2 245 2.9 ghz

asus am3 socket motherboard

500gb hardrive

600 w psu

windows 7

optical drive by lite-on

Depends what you play - I already replaced by 9800GT because it struggled with L4D/Borderlands etc. I do run 1920x1200 tho.

I'm still using an 8800gts 512mb and it certainly does not struggle with games like L4D and thats also at 1920x1200 res.

Yes I am looking at changing it in the next few months but its not actually as slow as you are stating.

swap the psu down to the Corsair CX 400W and use the money you save to get a better gpu (5770 at the least), as you really really don't need a 600w psu for that system

Yea the 460 ffs.

You've mentioned this already and it's out his budget by a long way.

If you're looking at the £80 price bracket then second hand it is definately the way to go it's just finding a suitable card that's tricky. I was looking at around the same price range and came up with the following cards.

ATI 4850
ATI 5750
Nvidia 250
Nvidia 260

In the end I was given a card so I can't comment on the above.

find yourself a second hand 4890, good cards still.

This really is your best option, will be miles faster than anything you can buy new for £80. You may get lucky and find a second hand gtx275 as another option
