I've just got back from a month long trip to the middle of nowhere, where the closest thing to technology (other than checking emails once a week) was using wire ropes and pullys. Get home and turn on my computer and I get a disk error... After a while I eventually narrow it down to a SATA cable issue*, which I replace and get it working (still takes a couple of hours).
Slightly later and I help my sister with her Antivirus on her desktop. Uninstall it to replace it with another and restart. Fans start up but nothing else happens and so it's broken... Great... I leave it til today as I had no sleep for at least 24 hours and a long journey that day,
Today I try and get it working, adjust things and swap components with a working system to see what the issue is. Don't succeed in mending the computer but succeed in causing the same problem with the computer I was swapping components with...
So 3 desktops in our house, all three broken within 24 hours of me getting home... One fixed and two looking like they need new components. What a nice thing to be doing after getting back...
I wish I was back in the middle of nowhere...
* This seems to be a recurring theme. First sata cable failure on my PC but two on my Sisters computer in the last year or so, different manufacturers of leads. Is this a common thing?
Oh and my phone broke just before I got to the middle of nowhere... So really the only remotely high tech thing I had (other than half an hour on a computer once a week) was a digital watch... Ahh, pure bliss...
