Nah, that was just a minor incident that happened to occur at the same time.
After three months in hospital, he goes back to try again and clears the bridge.

My brother told me of a time when he was first on scene to a very similar accident. The chap had hit the barrier, and flew sideways into a bridge footing too.
He was not quite as lucky to leave the scene alive. He survived long enough for my brother to speak to him apparently, but died shortly afterwards. Bridges do not forgive in an accident

The oddest one I 'experienced' was years ago when I was about 10. Some guy ducked under a bridge and pulled over for a nap. Quite responsible I suppose, that is until the damn thing collapsed on top of him.

It does look a bit squishy but no sure if it's him.
I don't think it was so much the speed but the fact that he was driving on whatever they call the Hard Shoulder over there.
if nthe bridge wasn't there he would have ended up in oncoming traffic possibly killing other people, at least with the bridge only he got hurt.
