Who has SKY HD+?

just to give peps a heads up now that sports season is fully in.
called sky up to gets sports, they have an offer on that isnt advertised anywhere where you can get sports and movies for half price for 3 months (making it cheaper) if you have a 4 pack.

this is naturally a much better deal then the £5 off they have on their website and whether you need the movies or not doesnt matter as it works out cheaper then just getting sports.

just remember to cancel movies before month 2 ends!

I have Sky HD and with the two packs (variety and knowledge) i have it's just not worth it. Most of the programs are repeats or just poor quality American rubbish and half of it is'nt even in native HD. Coupled to the fact that the letter we got last week tells us that we will be losing the bonus channels we currently have due to the aligning of HD to the subscription package makes it even more pointless. The letter says that you can keep the bonus channels if you contact them but when i did this they told me i would have to pay extra. No thanks. I hate Sky and it's monopoly but we don't have a lot of choice here. Freeview does'nt work although they assure us it will be working on switchover but with fewer channels due to our transmission mast being a repeater. Can't even get a half decent terrestrial signal here either.

Just to check here, are we saying that if you don't pay the extra HD subscription fee, you get no HD channels at all?

(I.e BBC HD, ITV HD?)

/edit just re-read.

Or do you mean that if you don't get Sky1 as part of your normal package you won't get Sky1 HD if you subscribe to HD?

not been keeping uptodate i presume?
basically the hd sub is changing, you still pay £10 but dont get all channels unless you have that mix.
so if you dont have entertainment you wont get sky1hd, if you dont have the news and events you wont get rush hd, news hd, eurosport hd.

you will obviously still get the free channels (you dont need hd sub for that) and any hd channel versions that link to your mixes.

hd to be honest is only worth getting if u have sports or movies, and always has been.

Not been keeping upto date no :/

Thanks for the info anyway.

I bought the HD box secondhand so I've never had the monthly sub as I couldn't justify it for the reason you've written above. Was just concerned I was losing everything :p

So what HD channels can you actually get without the subscription then? It look's like i will be paying the extra per month and getting bugger all in return.

Without a HD subscription you still get BBC HD and Channel 4 HD. I was going to try out the HD subscription until they told me you had to commit to 12 months of it :/ .

HD is lush, once you get used to it, if you switch back to normal, it's just staggering how bad it used to be <3

Sky Sports HD is win

I also got that letter today along with the Magazine. Quite funny as it was delivered while the bloke from Virgin was installing my V+HD box and second box in the bedroom. I was already with Virgin for Phone and BB so decided to go with them for TV after 8 years with Sky.

Also increased my BB to 50mb today. :D

how do you find the V+ box compared with the sky box ?

I always found the NTL cable boxes to be slower, EPG poorer (even despite numerous updates) and the chanel ordering very illogical with channels like BBC3 and BBC4 miles apart (as an example)

But as it stands, i can save £6 a month over sky's prices and gain sky sports + sky moves !

Just checked and my package has gone up by £4.

I mean wtf is actually going on? On AVForums and DigitalSpy, I haven't seen anyone getting charged more than £3 max. And i'm only on 4mixes+Sports 1(only 1) and HD Pack.

After the considerable price increases, I'd hope so. Would still be surprised though.
The rumour I'd heard was only for Sky World subs (so people might upgrade to Sky World resulting in a reduced revenue loss for Sky).

It is only all rumour though - seems unlikely Sky would just drop it shortly after the price changes. They would have done it all at the same time, surely?

i'd heard november to co-incide with a big push for Sky 3D. But looking back on digitalspy, people have been "predicting" from "inside information" that the charge was due to be dropped since 2007. I don't see why now is any different so i'm guessing it wont happen.

Looking on the MySky page, it just says "4 Pack with Sports 1 04/09/10 - 03/10/10 £34.00".

Above that is just the HD Pack which is £10.

EDIT: Just tried building the package on the Sky shop and it seems Sky Sports 1 is up to £12 and the mixes have increased as well.

4 mixes = £22
Sports 1 = £12
HD = £10

Ridiculous really. They are increasing prices and in October they are changing it so that you only receive HD channels to the mixes you subscribe to. So taking more away and charging more. Great Sky.

Well I've had Sky HD for almost a year now, it's beautiful but I get all the HD I need quicker and cheaper through LoveFilm and the like, or through Blu-rays if I'm really desperate for a new film.

What's the policy on cancelling? Can I give my 30 days notice at the end of 11 months or do I have to wait for the full 12 and then give them notice?

I can see why Sky Sports would be going up as they're paying for more Premiership matches this season which is going to cost a little bit more, not sure why the other prices would be going up though.
