I worked for Pioneer for a number of years and all I can say is you are a marketers wet dream. MSI do not make components they just assemble components together, you are crazy if you think they go on some crusade when they receive specs to ensure they only use the most expensive components their buying department can find.
MSI advertise "Military grade components" only to admit when asked that they are the same components the reference design uses, as they are already military grade.........
I fail to get excited if they or you say things are better as "they've moved stuff."
How many of you are actually running 850/1700/2000 OCCT stable ?
gigabyte 460GTX 1GB here running 850/1700/2000 OCCT stable @ 1.050v
kfa2 OC LTD, MSI Cyc wouldnt get over 840 without more than 1.050.
Only some of the MSI stuff uses higher quality components.

So far i,m not overly immpressed with the 460.. Its not really the big performance hike i was expecting. It also runs hotter than my oven and buzzes like crazy..

Just downloading Mafia see how it handles that as the Demo was a bit crappy on my 4850....
Why did you buy the Palit?
I'm beyond happy with my Gigabyte![]()
What temps are you getting? If you think it runs hot compared to a 4850 you more than likely have a dud card.
I had a 4850 and the GTX460 is a HUGE performance jump in everything. If you are not seeing much difference then i think you either have some kind of driver problem (ATI driver components left behind?) or a very large bottleneck somewhere. What is the rest of your system spec?

Solid State Choke, in addition to having heat-resistant characteristics, offers a special centralized structural design that can effectively reduce the production of noise, provide secure stability and has no high frequency buzz noise—fully meeting the multiple demands low temperature/low noise and stable high performance.
Told you not to get the Palit![]()
well you cannot say that we havent been recommending asus, msi and gigabyte...
the buzz is either fan noise or cap squeel. those 3 cards eliminate both of these issues complete.y
as for performance i went from an 8800GT and the overall increase isnt huge as a percentage. definately not the % that it cost me to change...
Just overclocked it too 880/1760/4200 max temp is around 70.c is that ok ? It seems to run no problems
well put it another way i sold my 8800GT for £50 but the GTX 460 doesnt offer me nearly 4 times that performance:/
maybe an extra 50-70% at best sometimes less.
yea any temp below 90 is okay really
I bought the Gigabyte 1gig version a week or so ago and it's running great; very quiet and cool.
I've bumped it up to 800mhz (from the stock 715mhz) as most have said they'll do that with no problem or voltage tweaks and it's running great with an idle temp of about 31.
Anyone got any quick tips on the best way to approach overclocking this further? Is it best to try and up the core speed first and get that as far as it will go and stable? Then lower and try the same with the ram before upping them both back up?
As for the voltages, when's the time to notch that up slowly? When there's any signs of artifacts/crashes etc?
Cheers for any help, pretty new to all this OC business.![]()

You need to increase the voltage to get to 850 Mhz and beyond, aroun 1.050 - 1.087 (which is the max allowed). The stock voltage is 0.975, but the Asus / MSI / Gigabyte can easily handle more.
