If I was to rate this with: this is absolute s***, meh or this is awesome

I would pick meh, the story is **** poor in most parts but good in a few, could have done a bit better with the area about Vito's Dad, action is fairly good although incredibly unrealistic (only 1 shot kills without shooting them in the head are with the M1 Garand or Shotgun), Graphics are good in select parts, other parts are awful especially reflections, Physics are great for the most part but some parts where it should have an effect it didn't(certain wood boxes was the big one)

My verdict is I just about got my moneys worth but I would recommend others not to buy it unless they're aren't many others games you want to play

Make sure you have set AA to Aplication Controlled in CCC. I get the same problem if I try to force AA through CCC.

About the game itself: fantastic, a contender for game of the year.

anyone using a steering wheel for driving? Im trying to get my Driving Force GT to work but not having much luck. Certain buttons work ingame but the wheel itself and pedals dont. Wont let me configure controller buttons either as its greyed out :s

The game is meant to support wheels and other people appear to be using the same wheel from what I can gather on the net.

Quote from 2k employee:

"Hey - I've told the team about this and they are looking in to support in the future. Currently, there isn't any built-in wheel support."

Some people are trying to implement wheel support though: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80322

Any one notice lots of the cut scenes we saw a while ago are missing?

Yes i noticed this, and TBH the games reeks of having quite a lot of content removed. The pacing is off in the story, where you have a ton of short missions and sometimes the jump between one mission and the next barely makes any sense.

Either they ran out of time/money (i doubt this very much indeed going by the level of polish and attention to detail) or the publisher has stuck their nose in and yanked out content to be re-sold as DLC or maybe it had to be removed so the game could ship on a single disk. The single disk theory might sound stupid, but believe me M$ charge A LOT in fees for every disk your game takes up, hence why John Carmack was publicly bitching about them over Rage and not allowing them to install to the HD by default. Instead of using an extra disk that they would need to match the PS3 on quality, they are forced to compress the **** out of the textures and ship a poorer version.

Mafia 2 is still decent i think, but not close to the original unfortunately. The pacing is the thing that has spoiled it for me, some missions are great but others just don't seem to fit or are just too short.

I will say one thing though, the game looks absolutely incredible imo. The city is just on another level to anything i've seen before. The city in GTAIV was great, but in Mafia 2 you can just driver around for 30 minutes and never feel you have seen any cookie cutter buildings etc... Just phenomenal work by the art team there. I also think the engine is really nice, with the only slight annoyance being the dodgy blur effect on distance objects, the lighting looks fantastic though during different times of day.

The only thing i keep thinking when i drive around is 'my god i hope someone makes a MP mod for the city....'. Who knows maybe they will even release such a thing as DLC, but that's unlikely.

they have mentioned on the forums the game will be modable so we should see a free roam mode added if they dont do it themselvs in a patch.

This is AWESOME news, i haven't visited the official forums yet for fear of spoilers (not finished yet) so thanks for reporting that.

Odd - are you using UK steam servers? I downloaded it this evening in just over 1hr.
Yes, I don't know how to switch servers anyway. All in all it took 7hrs for me - It could be related to my ISP (Be Unlimited) having major routing issues to US sites last night though.

I've just finished the petrol station mission and am enjoying things. As I've said many times, M2 won't ever equal or better M1 as the latter was made during a time when developers focused on gameplay/storyline over engine graphics so I'm not expecting a top notch game anyway. As long as the story is there...

Reminds me of the main story aspect of Mass Effect, but without the between mission freedom. Im up to chapter 7 now and thoroughly enjoyed it so far!

I didn't play the original and I'm really enjoying this.

The attention to detail in some places in brilliant. There's one bit where you get covered in poo, some stuff happens then you need to get changed. I walked up to a hot dog vendor and he just says "aw you smell like an ass!". Brilliant.

I love love love it so far. Single player game is very well made, the story is very interesting and I actually actively follow it instead of skipping cut scenes as I always do. Some epic set pieces such as a night out in a cat-house and some epic singing along to Ol' Blue Eyes on our way back. I also don't know how the hell people finished it so fast. Then again, such is the usual case that people just rush through it to complain on forums to people that don't care. If you take your time, explore a bit, stop to overhear conversations, etc. It should take a good 12 - 15 hours to finish this game. Hell, I'm 5 hours in and sitting on 28%.

Completed today. I think it's a decent game, the atmosphere is probably one of the best you can get in a game. The story took me by surprise, being a gangster has never been more difficult it seems. I'd love to have seen more option when it came to clothes, simply not enough for me. Cars were wicked, driving was fun and the difference between normal and a sports car was good.

The game was good but could have been better. It should have been at least twice as long with more missions.

Completed in 10.5 hours.

Ta fella :)

Looking at your sig, what AF team do you play for? you playing in the bafacl league?

Cheers,

TC.

That's Darmstadt Diamonds over in the German Bundesliga South back in 08 when I did a year abroad. The QB running behind me was pretty good - started for Missouri Tigers back in 2003 who are a top College side.

Played for Coventry Jets/Warwick Wolves for a while but I slipped a disc in my back deadlifting and haven't played in over a year now. Good times.

ANYONE ELSE got an ati xtx1900 card and have the blinking shadows issue? can't believe this and there appears to be no fix other then to buy a new card :( wait ages for this game to find i can't even play it yet crysis worked perfectly

Well just finished the game. Overall it's a great game and definitely worth the buy but it's not without its flaws that let the game down in places.

The ending was hugely dissapointing, bit of an anti-climax. However, the firefights right before the ending are the best bit of the game imo. It's just such a pity that 2k didn't include more of them. As I've said before, the fist-fight missions in chapter 5 and 6 really let the game down and the whole prison period is quite frankly tiresome, this is where the game goes downhill - but thankfully it picks up again in the few chapters after it. Some of the firefights can be infuriating because often you'll get hit and be near death so will stay behind cover only to be bullrushed by a guy with a thompson/shotty from the side, and you can't pop out to take him down because you'll die but he just runs straight at you around your cover and kills you anyway. This happened quite a lot unfortunately, but I still retain that the firefights are the best bit of the game.
There's a couple other niggles with the game but nothing major. The story isn't that original or as in depth as perhaps I'd like, but it's still interesting.

It just feels like a third of the game is missing really and the ending does nothing to help that, I can only assume they thought it would be good opener for a third in the series but still it could have been done much better.

The world, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the acting, the gunplay and everything else is fantastic though. I look forward to a third in the hope that now they have a template they can expand on the depth of the story a little more and work out the niggles.

8/10 from me.

any 1 else get stuck on chapter 14? it wont let me hand the money over to bruno?

You need 27.5k. Look on your map screen top left for how much money you have. You need to crush cars or rob shops to get the money. Once you have 27.5k in your pocket you should get a new mission.

Just finished, nice ending! Great game, loved it and loved the soundtrack, best game i've played this year!
