Mafia II Thread

I'm up to chapter 5.

It doesn't quite have the class as the original, but it's early days.

It's defintely a good game so far, and I'm hoping it improves.

Cetainly nothing like a 4/10 from eurogamer. More like an 8/10, and egging it on to be a 9 or 10, but the jury's out.

Hmm... unsure why, but those on console seem to have enjoyed it more than those on PC. I'm personally very disappointed. :(

the one thing about the console version (360) i hate is the graphics, now i know you can't expect pc standard graphics on a console but this game has loads of issues like the cut scenes are very blocky and badly animated and the graphics in general are very low grade and something i would have expected in a 360 game back in 2006 when the 360 first come out...... that aside i'm really enjoying it and having waited for so long since the first one i have to say they've done a good job (apart from the graphics LOL) the control's are not perfect but i plan on selling the 360 version when it's complete and grab the pc version i planed on getting the pc version but forgot i had it on pre-order for the 360  anyway so far i would give the game 7/10 on the 360 with graphics accounting for 2.5 of the minus points and the other half point for the control's :)

Im loving it! About 6 hours in and its a bit like a goodfellas game! (which is good) Ps3's frame rate is a bit poor but the game is interesting and fun (mostly just done one trivial mission) and is clearly a good 8 out of 10!

I'm loving it, follows on the theme and feeling that Mafia 1 created nicely. Graphics can be a but ropey in places (playing 360 version), and there are more than a few glitches which is a bit unforgivable, but overall I think it's a great game :)

I got 3 DLC codes with my copy, are they worth redeeming now or will they make the game too easy?

1) Man made pack, 2 cars and 2 suits
2) Greaser Pack, 2 more cars and 2 more suits
3) Betrayal of Jimmy, sounds like an addon mode.

Cheers, just downloaded them all and about to start the game. Hope it's good.

It is, i'm up to chapter 10 and enjoyed all of them so far. I was thinking there isn't much variety to start with but as you go through the game you see there is a lot. Love chapter 6 also :D

The Roller GL300 212hp 148mph would certainly make the Mail Man achievement easy perhaps too easy and one of the made man suits saves you a trip plus expense.

Eurogamer got it spot on for me. If you stop for a moment and think about it, there's very little actually in the game. Fancy graphics a good game does not make.

60% Driving to a mission
20% Cutscenes
15% Shoot these guys
5% Drop this off

Well Skippi, it is based around the story, which is very very good.

I agree it wasn't perfect, pretty much no game ever is.

2k Games had to make a sequel that fans of the original Mafia would enjoy, and that is exactly what they did.

Eurogamer gave the original Mafia a 4/10 too, which many people consider to be one of the best games they have ever played. So they obviously have a beef with 2k about something.

They rarely talk any sense over there.

Personally, I thought the story was terrible. But I can't go into that without talking about spoilers. But at no point, do you actually feel like you're in the family. Your only contact with most of the family is through one person which makes the whole game feel like you're doing jobs for one guy.

The storyline doesn't seem to follow any real plot. Just you were this guy, now you're going to be this guy. Here's some stuff that happens in between.

Well, its not a game for everyone, but after seeing 4/10 scores, I was pleasantly surprised to find they were a bit stupid and wrong :p

I can relate to what you mean though, it wasn't ground breaking in any way, not even the storytelling, but it was decent.
