Mafia II Thread

I loved Mafia 1, I've done the first few hours of Mafia 2 and I am not even close to disappointed. Its excellent so far :D

Glad someone else remembers Mafia I defin a game which defined my era of gaming. I remember the bit where you had to shoot the peg/wedge from the train to make it crash through something took me hours to work that out :D

Yeah, I'll never forget the bit where you kill the guy on the steamboat either, while he's doing his speech at a party (or something like that).

Legendary game.

My overriding memory of Mafia is the racing car part that I could not do. I am useless at racing games and eventually gave up. I downloaded a save game from the Internet that was saved right after that part was completed.

I then went on to complete the game as far as I remember.

I remember the fun times we had on here.. people were buying steering wheels just for the race and saying it was impossible on the keyboard. I did it but only after about 40 trys lol. Still the original is my 3rd favorite game of all time, hope this lives up to it!!

i purchased a joypad for mafia 1 also :D

i picked up mafia 2 last night (so much for no more games until GT5) and played through the first 6 chapters in 4 hours as loved it, first one was one of my top games of all time and when this was announced i was following it for ages and so far im not dissapointed (once id sped up the aim speed anyway)

Just bought this, don't know much about it tbh. Do I need to have played the first one, or is there a story I can catch up via Youtube etc?

No, you're good to go...it doesn't follow on from the Mafia story except for picking up the time period.

Is it like RDR in that you have to travel constantly? Looks good but I've given up on RDR as i got bored of riding everywhere to progress.

You do have to drive around quite a lot yeah. There's radio and such in the car though so its not as boring as on horseback in RdR :p

So, those that have bought it; good? Better than the crappy review from Eurogamer?

Its superb, ignore Eurogamer, that review is absolute nonsense.

Its a 9/10 game, easily. If you liked Mafia 1, completely ignore any reviews and get it, you wont be disappointed.

I loved it whilst it lasted, grinned my way through most of the missions except for the odd bit for reasons I won't spoil :p It's certainly not the epic that the first one was, but it has its moments.

One minor spoiler is that the meat of the demo mission does appear in the full game despite what it said.

Screen tearing and framerate issues for me on 360 will be back to pc once completed at least i know now what i thought reflection graphics bug on pc not now 360 the same cant beleive people have not noticed this.

You see black glow around outside of vito if you watch behind him whilst you run your see black feint outline catch up known again. And its definitely not shadow as it happens anywhere and you think its gone sometimes but it comes back does get irritating when you notice it.

I think its some kind of lighting issue with light bouncing off Vito causing weird graphics glitch but i dont really know.

I love it.

They've done the first one justice, which is rare in a sequel.

The original had bugs, they game play wasn't that great, but the story was fantastic, and this is the same.

I love the little details they've put in too.
