The Police Will Do Nowt ...... Maybe.

Or a Fender had to be surgically removed.

if your on the force you would know the "scrote" who stole his car would be able to get the guys address from his solicitor in the event that anything happened to the "scrote" its likey the car owner would end up with all his windows smashed or his face caved in

16.75 hrs on Saturday after being seconded to Bradford for the EDL / UAF protest.

I was completely wrecked by the time I crawled into my pit at 23:30 after getting up at 3:50am for a 5:30 start.

Do you get to volunteer for this kind of duty or is it all hands to the pump?

In 2002 I had my Ford Mondeo stolen and the Police rang me to say it's been spotted in Meir.
My wife takes me up and I'm looking at the damage and notice a piece of paper on the floor.
The scrote had dropped a letter on the floor with his name & address and with his court appearances on.
I decided to take the law into my own hands because adding another stolen vehicle to his tally would do nothing.
(I'm not going to say what I did).

Not often you hear things like this. Usually they are more interested in getting the easy target 'criminals' doing 34 in a 30.

No cop joins the force to enforce petty crimes. It's not easy to be accepted so most who do make it through, do it to catch real criminals.

Every job has a few bad eggs but overall I have a huge amount of respect for the job they have to do. I certainly wouldn't want to do it, some of the things they deal with must be soul destroying.

I've only ever had one dealing with the police, excluding speeding, and that was when an Astra I had in the early 90's got broken into and the radio stolen.

A constable came round and said even though they had a good idea who had done it they could do nothing about it due to lack of evidence. He just laughed when I asked him for the name of the person(s) he believed responsible :D

Yeah but there is no concept anymore of giving people a warning. It's all this instant penalty nonsense.

The knackers fined me £30 one night after midnight for having fog lights on. Two miles up the road in the hills it was so foggy. OK I forgot to turn them off but are we meant to be perfect? People often have their minds on other things. Be fined for a memory lapse isn't good.

Do you really think the crime has been solved or has some random copped to a list of unsolved crimes to get an easier time in court?

Are you suggesting impropriety on the part of a solicitor without morals ?

PSU / riot policing is by choice for me and large scale demos like Bradford often require what is called mutual aid where other forces are called in and specialist public order teams can be drafted in.

Oh, I believe it has been solved. It is a big risk to get a random to cough to unsolved jobs as you would risk perverting the course of justice investigation. Certainly a risk I wouldn't consider, crime figures be damned.

Also, coughing to them would be a bit daft for the cougher as it is more crimes on their print and may go against them in future when a judge considers sentence.

when i was arrested some 10 years ago my solicitor told me what others who had been arrested with me had said in their interviews, and i knew the names of all the witnesses.

doubt times have changed much

EDIT: nvm, confused smallhausen with stockhausen.

Von smallhausen, just a general question, do you have a quota of fines you have to reach every year in the UK, police here are notorious for shafting people, but not all do it willingly but because they are forced to write at least 300 per year. Actually know someone that decided to change from regular police to marechausse ( marchalls/gendarmerie ) to escape from that rule.

That phrasing suggests that you think there are solicitors with morals.

M

It's just a ploy to catch the unwary. Anyway they've got ethics sections in the exams and everything, how much more proper can you get? ;)

I know the phrase "the wheels of justice move slowly" but this is surely taking the Michael...

I love revenge and take my time doing it.
I waited about 6 months and drove past his (parents) house a few times.
By that time he had got himself one of these small boy racer cars with tinted windows and during one early morning drive I ruined a few things with a stanley knife and bottle of turps :)
It still didn't pay for the damage and stuff he stole out of my car though which came to about £250 and it was pointless claiming.

Imho doing this is no better than what he did, sure he was a **** but you shouldn't have taken law into your hands. Regardless of who it is done to vandalism is still a crime and just as bad, if not worse than theft. At least with theft you don't (willingly) ruin property it just moves from person to person, I can understand why people steal but vandalism is pointless waste. Okay he vandalized your car when stealing too but still.

No mate.

I have never been told you must arrest x amount of people or issue x amount of fixed penalties and I believe such an approach is wrong.

What happened to having minor things taken into consideration, i thought they sort of didnt get any more for those.

Ahhh good, the idiots from some left wing party (probably labour, I don't know when it was brought in but all the right wing parties + the green party want to get rid of it asap) thought it was a good idea, but right wing parties like the ones who now won the elections want to get rid of it, good riddance :o.

TICs are still going but they are on the back of one or more charge and you can only TIC similar offences.

You couldn't get charged with burglaries and TIC, for example, a couple of assaults.

You don't get any more for TICs but they lie on file, go on your CRO record and can influence a sentencing decision by a judge at a later date.
