glasgows getting a bit tonto again it seems

Over the last month there have been quite a number of sexual attacks and rapes in the City Centre in the early hours of the morning. All attckers are being described as Asian.

The latest report was of an Asian man trying to lure drunk clubbers into his car, claiming to be a taxi driver.

I'd say it's East of High Street, north of the Clyde and bordered to the North by the M80. Royston would be East, Springburn would not. I said Dennistoun was 'fake' East-End because it isn't renowned for the violence and what not (at least The Drives aren't) like the places further along. I try not to cross the train tracks at Cumbernauld Road as a general rule. That's when it gets properly scary!

Aye that was my rule of thumb when I was looking for a new flat the other week, nothing further than Cumbernauld Road so I don't have to change my pants every time I get in at night. Had an interesting mystery shopping experience in Royston that involved taking a photo of a Ladbrokes near a high school - the locals didn't take kindly when it looked like I was taking photos of the schoolkids :p

thankyou,

but why the hell would you try and drill someone through the head when a gun would be a lot simpler?

I can think of tgree reasons:

1) A message. Drilling someone through the head is past shooting them in the "people to not mess with" league.

2) Forensics, either in reality or in the perception of the attackers. We've all seen CSI et alia, where a bullet in a corpse is all they need to track down the killer.

3) Opportunity. Maybe at the time they didn't have a gun on them or only had a gun they didn't want to either dispose of afterwards or keep as potential evidence against them.

I walked through the east end once during the day when i was a student, i made it out alive!

Maybe too many horror movies.

Glasgow is one of my least favourite places on Earth.

If London is a toilet, then Glasgow is the cesspit.

Edinburgh on the otherhand... wow, love it.

I used to think like this that Edinburgh was the best 'main' city in Scotland but every foreigner I have met which have been round Scotland think Glasgow is the much better place to be.

As for the story, as long as no one innocent gets caught in the crossfire they can do what they like to each other IMO

Not sure why there'd be the consideration that it was inspired by anything, gang violence has always been pretty nasty, just it wouldn't likely have been headline news a couple of decades ago.

Go out in glasgow quite a bit and pretty much every bit of violence I've seen has been gang/families related on nights out.

Hell we stayed right in the gorbals on new year and walked home with no bother.

But as a place I think Glasgow is awesome :)

Out of interest do you actually live near here or are you speaking from a tourist perspective?

Used to live in Royston, never really seen any trouble at all. Sure every other week there would be flowers and Celtic tops decorating a new lamp-post where someone has been stabbed but that would normally be inter gang violence.

I used to do security for the filming of Taggart which led to me being in almost every part of the Greater Glasgow area. Parts of streets coned off for trucks arriving the next day, heavy lighting equipment left out in place overnight and me looking after it all.

I spent an overnight in Royston telling locals they couldn't park outside their house and no-one complained (being a local boy helped) and the teens even asked if they could use some of the cones for goals if they put them back when they where finished. Lo and behold, the cones where brought back as soon as the game was over. The area may look rough because it is run down (blame Labour) but the locals are alright.

as i said previously drug crime is getting out of hand up here add to that the sectarian nonesense with every march/parade/oldfirm game and you've probably found the route cause for 90% of violent incidents in Glasgow and the surrounding areas unfortunately i can see glasgow ending up like some parts of the states in a few years, drive bys becomming a frequent occurence and the dealers/thugs not being afraid to shoot it out with the police. Theres too much money in the drug trade up here and everyone seems to want a slice of that pie

Ive been quite a few times.

Everytime I go, I always see neds wearing no tops. Seriously, no tops at all, even in winter.

Plus parts of Glasgow look worse than Gaza after an Israeli airstrike.

Its incredible.

He's a tourist. English guy living out in the sticks of Scotland IIRC.

My brother lives in Hogganfield with his new girlfriend. He's from Leigh, Lancashire and suffice to say he doesn't go out on his own much lol. I've visited a couple of times and his extended family are very nice people, in fact they can't do enough for you and I look forward to my next visit. :)

the vast vast majority of glasgwegians are like that, do anything for anyone its the small minority that want to ruin it for the decent people.
