Got a piece of my dash wrapped in vinyl...

Where did you get your big piece of DI-NOC? I did my the back of my phone today and it is amazing stuff, with a bit of heat it really adheres/stretches over curves.

I have crappy plain plastic wing mirrors on my fiesta and want to DI-NOC them for added chav factor.

Ebay, but the prices were a touch lower when I got mine.

I do need another sheet though, and 60cm x 120cm seems to come in at around £27. Not too bad :) (30cm x 120cm is funnily enough about half that cost).

Thanks, did you find it hard to wrap the wing mirrors? And if you messed up was it time to get a new piece or could you get the wrinkles out with a heat gun?

I tried the first time with a hairdryer, and whilst I managed it eventually, it took far too long and ended up hurting the skin on my thumbs. It did however have a finish that I was happy with (I had one or two small 2mm or so blemishes, but they were on the underside so didn't bother me). I then proceeded to cut around the edge (rather than leave 10-20mm wrapping around the back) so when they heated in the sun they shrivelled up!

My second attempt was with a heatgun, which is so much easier to work with as it gets the Di-Noc very pliable, and almost falls into place, however I got a bit over-eager with the heat and pulled a hole through a small section where it wrapped around the edge of the mirror cap.

Obviously the next time I'd learnt from my mistakes, and now they look spot on :) However with both the first and 2nd attempt I could still re-use the vinyl for covering smaller (than the wing mirrors) items.

Thinking about getting mine all done, can get it done for £99 fitted, so factoring in the cost of the film needed, and the primer, and the time it takes to do it, I'll just get them to do it, lol.

Ok then, plastic dye :p

Still won't end up with as durable and even finish as vinyl wrap.

I'm not saying £80 was good value (it's awful value), but wrapping it yourself for £20~ would have been comparable to the cost of prepping and spraying, and looked awesome.

If I ever bother trying to get my awful faux-carbon centre trim off I think this would be a definite improvement!

30 quid a sheet or whatnot seems super value, and an excuse to buy a heat gun.

While I would never normally say I think it's a good idea to wrap bits of car trim like that, I must admit it does look better than the silver plastic.
