I got up one morning to find my triangular window broke and the only thing missing was a £1 I had on the dashboard.
They hadn't bothered with anything else and they must have felt foolish when they put their hand through to open the back door because I used to leave all the doors open

TIcs are detected by investigation.

I knew back in 2003 that there were no leads be it forensic, witnesses or CCTV so there was nothing to go on back then.

Someone is in custody for other matters and a DC asks if there is anything they want to cough for a clean slate when they get out. The miscreant sorts out the theft from m/v and it's detected. While simple, it is still by the process of investigation that it got finalised.
